So I quit smoking a couple months ago and my bf quit shortly after. We decided to start running because we felt so much better. Last weekend we ran our first 5k

Got the results today and I came in 77 out of 146! I know it's not awesome but I'm proud that I finished in the first place. Finished in 31:37 which is about a 10 min mile. I had to walk for about 3 mins because I learned during this run that I have ragweed allergies :P

Either way I'm proud of myself. I am signed up for a 10k this October also. I never used to like running but I actually look forward to it now. It's nice to be involved in a sport again. I miss it for sure.

Hello, salukigirl. You and your friend are to be commended. Quitting smoking is huge, and the running is too. Well done.

Hey respect to you! I think even if you had come last it would have been an achievement.

I keep trying to find ways of motivating myself to get fit - any tips?

Well done again - let us know how the 10k goes.

That's awesome! I was doing a 5km every other weekend but haven't for months now. And it shows. Well done to you and your bf!

Well done. I'm so out of shape it's pathetic.

Good job on quitting smoking too. Good luck on the 10K.

Thanks everyone. It is a pretty good feeling.

@soupdragon - honestly I woke up one day and didn't want a cigarette. That was how I quit. Same thing with running. I felt like doing it and haven't stopped. I wish I had words of wisdom for you. I guess find something that is fun for you. I can't go to the gym and work out bc it's boring. Running and sports are fun though and just happen to be healthy. Also, I have noticed that having a partner there helps a lot. Every time I say I'm tired he says "no, you need to keep going" and doesn't let me stop. Then, when I'm done, I thank him for not allowing me to give up. Maybe try a work out buddy?
