That's awesome, Omers!

Whenever I have been in the psychiatric hospital I was always bored to tears in the evening because we had no structured activities and we often would color with colored pencils and hang our designs on our doors.

I will buy a couple of those to have on hand 'just in case' I have to be admitted ever again.

Oops... you can get to this from one of the other links but this is easier:

Good stuff. I really like them. Must admit, I buy them then photocopy them so I can color the pictures more than once.

I should really invest in a new colouring in book, I've been feeling the need to do stuff lately, I bought some material to make cushions thinking that would last me a few weeks but I got through all 5 in 2 days. I had a My Little Pony colouring in book, but I finished it.

I have so many free pages printed off the internet, quality is not excellent but it suffices. It is time to invest in a nice book but I find the quality of paper hard to colour in on.

I have thought of scanning the and printing some to cold press watercolor paper (something about 40 pound paper brings me security... must be the inner artist).

They are SO worth the investment. I still have kids coloring books around the house but these are so much better when I need to distract.

I pick up kids' coloring books at the Dollar Store and photocopy the pages so I can color them more than once.

Omers, it's interesting that you prefer the more detailed books for distraction. I prefer the kids' books better. I get frustrated with the more detailed ones.

I need the detail to keep me focused. Coloring a large area is almost hypnotic for me and I go back into my out of control thoughts and feelings. I really have to stay focused on the lines in the detailed books and it keeps me from drifting.

BTW they also make raised line coloring books too that can be a different experience. All I can find right now are the ones they make for the visually impaired which are expensive. They do make less expensive ones.

Raised line coloring books!?! What a kewl idea. I'll have to look for 'em.

What you said about coloring large areas being hypnotic to you is interesting. I guess I like them for the reason you don't like them. I have a feeling similar to dissociating when I color. I can kind of zone out for awhile when I color. It gives me a break from the world.
Thanks for this!

I also like to photocopy some color images in back and white so that I can create my own reality. It started with hand coloring black and white photos....
Gus, you reminded me of an old Courier and Ives book I have around here somewhere. Most of the pictures are black and white... they would be a blast to color... and hmmm... Autuban books... Gus, you may have inspired a monster!

The raised line coloring book I have is very simple images for preschoolers and I found it at Walmart for bout $5. I have also seen it at our local education supply store. The ones for the visually impaired are about $15. I have also taken "puff paint" to a coloring page to raise the lines. It is a lot of work and can warp the page but can be worth it. I like coloring the raised line ones with my eyes closed, focusing in really hard on the feel of the paper, the line, and the crayon or colored pencil (not a big fan of markers).Ah ha! found it...

The preschool crayons that have a ball that goes in the palm of your hand and then come down to a point are worth experimenting with too. It makes it a gross motor experience rather than fine motor. OK, seems they don't have the crayons any more but they do have the markers
