Story about bears; read the comments, too -- this time (up to now) they are not foolish/racist/crude. If you are taking a trip into bear country, pay attention:

I expect hiking in grizzly country would be more than I could bear.

in yellowstone i believe the bears are experts at spotting the latest "mommy-mobiles" ..they seem to know which car models usually come equipped with kids & then rock them so the windows pop & then they have access to the food goodies.
you can't always blame the bears..tourists do stupid things...like leave food around etc when they shouldn't...& then approach the bear cubs.....people tend to forget that animals inside parks are not the same as they see in zoo's. they are wild & will hurt you. people do stupid things like try to pet the bison, the bear, pick up the snakes, etc. granted some of the wildlife become to familiar with people & become problems ...those need to be removed to the back woods...but for the most part many times the problem isn't so much the animal but the tourist...they can read the signs, the warnings & should ideally know the danger of staying away from the huge creature that can eat you...(or away from the geyser that can boil you etc). people tend to leave their brains behind while on vacaction at times...we all do...but hopefully it doesn't cost us our lives...asking where the bathroom is while standing next to it isn't as bad as hand feeding the bear cub, etc. stupidity can & will kill you in nature. stumpy ![]() who has seen it happen |
