In 14 days I will be on a plane to San Diego to see my youngest son! I have never gone this long without seeing him before and I cannot wait! I feel like a child at Christmas!

LOL thanks so much. Quite honestly I will not be looking at anything other than my son. Hubby has this list of things we can do. I ask "Will I see Peanut?" If the answer is no then I am not interested. Luckily my brother will be there to do all of those things with him.

Thank you! Although he informed me that today is Monday, not Tuesday as I thought so it is actually 15 days but that is still more managable than 3 months!

Wooohooo!! I'm so glad you'll be able to see him soon and attend his graduation. We didn't have to travel that far because my son served his Navy boot camp at Great Lakes. He'd never been away from me for that long either. My only goal was to get a good look in his eyes to make sure he was okay.

The ceremony was overwhelming to me and my husband. Both of our fathers had trained at the same facility during WWII. My son turned out to be one of the leaders, so when he came out leading his group, it looked like my husband was about to explode with pride. When they played "Anchors Away," I started to cry because I had grown up on that song and clearly remember the look on my father's face whenever that song would play. My husband and I were certain the spirits of our fathers were with us that day and would hopefully watch over our son. They did.

We sat several rows up during the ceremony. When it was over and we were told we could go "hug our sailors," my husband practically flew over the crowd in front of us and got ahold of him before me.

Here's an early CONGRATULATIONS for your son, and let him know I'll keep him in my prayers.

I know you come from a Marine family, so be sure to have tissue handy when you see your son in uniform as they play the anthem. If you wear makeup, I'd suggest waterproof.

I hope you have a safe and wonderful trip.

Thanks Kathy!!! Actually hubby was Navy, although he went to bc in SD, his C schools were all in Great Lakes. At the time it was their policy to send them furthest from home for bc. A whole gaggle of uncles were Navy, my father Army, his father was also Navy. A few uncles and cousins in the AF. My brother and a couple uncles were Marines. One uncle was in the CG, so we have all branches covered. Family gatherings with branch pride... are loud.

Yes they are Madisgram! I was a little concerned, I knew when I hugged him good-bye that the next time I saw him he would be a man. I sent them a child. The maturity and insight in his letters has been amazing.

We got a letter today and he may be more mature, but he's still our Peanut. My SIL pointed out that she would be extremely offended if we did not at least stay one night at her home in Chicago. She said she was willing to trade a day with her two children (ages 5 and 3, whom I adore) for a day with our new Marine. The running joke is that I shared my kids with her and she's pretty stingy with her own children.

Anyway, his letter today said he was really looking forward to spending the night at his Aunt's house. But according to him, HE gets to spend time with his cousins since HE has been the one gone for three months!

I have been bursting with pride all day long! Hubby woke me up this morning at 3 when today is one of the days I can sleep in until 6. He played the video for me and did not tell me that they had earned Honor Platoon, just let me see it at the end of the video. I am sure he is walking on air too. I cried like a baby! He looks so different!
