I am experiencing contentment. My dad and I are getting along and when we do butt heads we are able to resolve our differences rather quickly and then go on. My dad says I am acting my age. Hopefully they will realize then that they do not have to "parent me" anymore. My mom and I are doing good also. She is letting me cook on Monday. I get the Food Network Magazine and found a few things in there I want to try and she agreed they sounded good. So that is why I am feeling content.

I can't ever remember feeling content. It is strange to feel it and kind of scary. I am used to chaos and all that comes with it and it is going away. I need to not let me get me if that makes any sense.

Do any of you know of way to learn to experience contentment?

Riiiight, and I am bold and beautiful . I think it's great that you are able to experience these feelings of contentment and GROWTH (cooking, etc) within your family circle and everybody is cool with it. They must give you room to grow. Parenting is more than just saying no. It's supporting the young person taking his wobbly first steps into adulthood. That contentment is the self-satisfied smile of the two-year-old taking his first steps, it is a life-changing moment - you are king (queen) of the world! And each accomplishment will build on the next. Keep track of some of them, you will enjoy looking back to see how far you've come.

I'm so glad for you jbug! It's really nice when things go a calm way without all the chaos of before. That doesn't mean it's gone forever, but it does build and multiply. Or at least that's how it's been for me.

Good luck with this new, fresh part of your life!

I found my contentment after a decade of psychotherapy.
