The lack of cell phone use etiquette grinds my gears. When you are asked to turn off your phone for the comfort of others, do it. If you asked people to turn off their phones then enforce it. I hate hate hate having to listen to people's personal converstations because I happen to be sitting near by.

Talking on the phone at a check out counter. Requiring the clerk to talk over or in between gaps in the person's phone converstation. In elevators.... walking and chatting on the phone. So many things about cell phone use drives me batty.

I am very hypersensitive to noise and some of the ringers people choose are down right noise pollution. I have engaged in more than a few altercations over the years with self righteous and entitled cell phone users. Sit near me, pull out your cell and engage in a personal, loud or otherwise rude and annoying use and you will hear from me.

Another thing with the phone.... friends or family who put me on hold in the middle of a conversation to take another social call. I hang up rather than be pushed to the back of the que.

People who have no idea what "reason" really is. I was on a jury and in chambers
the guy elect foreman begins going off for 20 minutes that it was true what the
prosecution said about the roommate, that he was a liar.
The prosecution made many 'good points' IN CLOSING ARGUMENTS,
sheez, I could say the moon was made of cheeze and that President Thomas J. Whitmore was
a real president and not just a character of "Independence Day" movie.
no reality is needed in closing arguments. I see this all the time at work,
on Nancy Grace show with her lambasting people she sees as bad.
and a million places, especially mine and others familys.
Dumb thinking is gone wild in a world where education should be of value.

Oh gosh, I have some.

When my father-in-law cheers and groans at the wrong times during UFC fights. Then talks over the announcers to let us know that "that guy hit him really hard, that's gotta hurt!"

That the man who molested me is known to be in Panama, but they won't extradite him because he has dual citizenship, even though he was sentenced to 35 years with no parole and is a repeat offender.

When my cat walks across my keyboard, or fights with the dog and then runs behind me for cover.

Hearing Gears of War 3.
(My husband says "having to wear headphones while playing Gears of War 3")

My husband also says "when you serve yourself the same size portion as me and there aren't left overs. I'm bigger than you, shouldn't I get to eat more?"

^At least he said it while chuckling!^

What grinds my gears?

People who make immediate judgements about anyone else without knowing the whole story.

Assumptions that people who plead guilty to certain offenses are actually guilty and awful people who ought to be locked up. Many of them aren't - they just can't afford the legal fees to keep fighting.

Refusal of companies to hire ex-cons. They served their time - why do we make them keep serving forever?

People who drive slow in the passing lane and pace the car in the other lane.

When the trash man doesn't pick up my trash.

Commercials on every single radio station.

Gas prices.

When my peeps put pots on the top tray in the dishwasher.

When commercials come on and the blow you away cuz they're so loud.

My list could go on and on...

Materialism and loss of human traits in humans, humans that are inhumane, everyday repetitive routines (thank God I'm on holidays), spoilt little kids and teenagers, soccer moms, feminists who blame every economical failure on men and think women can do everything better, people who are reluctant but choose not to get help, arrogance, keyboard warriors, people who don't give way when driving, people who constantly complain, when people brings up pessimism during a positive event, when people snore, when people whisper, when people bear false witness, prejudice and racism.

Those are a few things that concern me.

One of the most grinding gears things for me is:

Just because I am a woman, working on third shift; The outsiders of my dept. believe I do nothing and should be doing the janitoral work- I just had the cleaning lady of the facility hint at that--
People with in my dept- Maybe about 5 of them close and 2 that are distant, see all the crap that I do-
Sure this job specifically everyone has screw around time, but I try best to fill up at least 5-7 of the 8 hours here with work-
It grinds my gears that just because I am a woman these people on the out side expect me to do the cleaning-- I have already had a few on my team do this to me a few years ago and that got canned up quick due to I am not janitorial and I do the clerical things for the desk

Give me an extra $7 and then maybe I will change my mind for doing someone else's job- lord knows that i already do others jobs with in my team already.

They probably are looking to cut costs and do away with the cleaning lady's position and so are seeking to redistribute duties to fewer people. It makes perfect sense to those who don't have to do the work you do. I understand your stress with it.

It would make sense but it is not that way- I wish it was that simple, but it is not--

Their manager and upper manager I have talked to personally when working first shift, and they know their job and I have been told sternly it is not our job to do their jobs. This cleaning lady just does not know I have contact with her managers and have talked to them- If she comes around again and does it I will be doing what I need to stop it.

And if the their job gets pound off to the desk/clerical people- I will be requesting a raise.

When I keep having to leave messages at doctors' offices, instead of being able to talk to a real person, it grinds my gears.

My doc's receptionist won't even take calls. We always get the answering machine which does not take messages. I always have to go to the doc's office to get any information or appointments booked. The grinds my gears.

Having watched this up close and personal happen to someone I love, I can't even express how much I agree. Caretaker Leo. The depth of this tragedy is mind-boggling. (And to any who've not experienced this... trust me, pray you never do. It is day in day out unrelentingly excruciating.) If it weren't bad enough unto itself,

and here is my related gear-grinder...

is the way it also punishes those not even involved at all! Among other things, when the person won't even be considered for a job, who do they think is left with double-duty and all the bills? And for those who were already struggling? Good way to land on the street. Bra-VO, judicial system. Nice work.

("Grind my gears" really doesn't even begin to express it...I'd put up with any of my major gear grinders every.single.day to not have this one.)
Thanks for this!

OK Seriously now this is making me angry. I'm not worried in the slightest bit because 1. Everyone around me knows what she says is nothing like me and 2. This job isn't my dream job anyways so if I lose it oh well but...
I really really hate it when people are so self absorbed they literally go out of their way to make someone else suffer just so they can feel better about themselves. A woman calls because she was charged for no show at the hotel. Happens all the time and of course they are mad they get charged when they didn't stay. It does clearly state our 48 hour cancellation policy for starters but that doesn't even matter. Angry guests are one thing but she was something else.
She calls furious of the charges. Goes on and on about how her room should have been cancelled that she called the day before the reservation to cancel. I apologize and tell her about our cancellation policy and that's why she was charged. She gets all hissy with me asking for corporates number. I don't have it on hand and asked her to be put on hold. She went off on me about "I'm not paying you" (as if I'm the one who would get the money?!) blah blah blah heard it all before. Then out of no where she says "Fine I'm just going to call corporate to tell them just how "nasty you were" and hung up. WTH?!?! I wasn't nasty in the least bit.
What urkes me about it, not the fear of losing my job, they wouldn't fire me or do anything over that. What irkes me is the nerve of people. Does she realize that I am a single mother and I use this paycheck to feed and clothe my daughter? Probably, does she care? Doubtfully!
I have NEVER in my life tried to have ANYONE fired, and while I'm not worried about getting fired, it really infuriates me the nerve of some people. As if YOUR mistake is enough for a single mother to lose their job? What if I was taking care of my sick mother too? What if I actually NEEDED this job, do they care? These people make me sick
The lack of humanity in some people is the worst. Truly sickening.
Sorry to rant, I'm virtually untouched by this woman, she didn't emotionally hurt me, I'm not worried at all, it's just the fact that this woman thinks her and her MONEY are more important than a human life. Disgusting!!!!

I grind my gears...... really I do.

I grind my gears with my "Dr. jeckle and mr. hyde" stuff that I feel like I do-- I was thinking on this earlier-- Man Vs. Self i suppose (remember literature class and talking of the issues in a story line-- that is like my life story line sadly).

It really grinds my gears hwo employers are all shifting ot part time positions and rent keeps climing. Th employers don't even have the courtesy to give you regular shifts all teh time so you can arrange for a second job around it. HOW DO THESE EMPLOYERS EXPECT TO HAVE A BUYING MARKET IF EVERYBODY IS LOSING INCOME? They keep cutting and laying off, freezing pays, etc. Then they complain that sales is slow. THEY CAN"T HAVE IT BOTH WAYS!!!!!
Thanks for this!

What really grids my gears some days (well many) are people at my work....

Some more than others--- Today is one that like refuses to help, but yet will break the rules due to stupid things--- Today just brought up the whole thing with me and him one time when he would not help another co-worker and me with moving things and needed the help, I ended up messing up my back cuz we had to move this stuff and he refused to help cuz he could not "leave his area"... Today there is stuff going on in his area and he leaves it unmanned to come up to my desk to basically inquire about some thing that he has readily avalible infront of his face at his station, and not only that, we have wonderful things called cell phones..

The next thing, is that the dude that called off a few days, does have something going on (he told me and we talked for a bit last week) and I made the comment that maybe dude asked for days off,.... and co-worker today says basically I know nothing, dude would NEVER ask for Days off and that he was told to take them off.....

It pisses me off--- No possibility of something happening and calling in to work, no he had to been told to take days off... whatever

Ontop of it--- Furloughs again!!! YAY YAY and this coworker again as standing at my desk starts to ***** about how this effects him deeply as if he was the only one-- I finally had to leave since he would not.

No sense in reporting this, and that he broke an actual LAW by him leaving the station with what is in possesion of the company right now, due to with the furloughs -- they will all again be "smudged on"..... I hate my work some days, and hate this man some days--- I limit my time with him due to he can trigger me with his stupidity, arrogance, ego, and laziness..... IDK why it triggers me so much, guess it reminds me of someone

sorry- I told myself, if I ranted about this-- it would be the end of it for today-- Thanks all! I will continue on!
