FeelingHopeful and Stumpy, do you think your "downess" is due to the hype that goes with the holiday in the US? The hype here is that everyone's a little bit Irish on St Patrick's Day and you're supposed to party 'til you puke drinking green beer and making an @ss of yourself.

Did you know that in Ireland the day is treated as a religious holiday - ya know SAINT Patrick's Day?

I heard an Irishman on NPR this week who, in a diplomatic Irish way, said that the Irsh do not celebrate the way Americans do.

In Ireland, this is a solemn holiday. Perhaps even a holy day of obligation. Personally, I do not partake in the wild revelry that goes on here. It's just plain silly.

mine was due to history of family abuse on this day..i am half irish & do not celebrate.

when i worked in nyc it got very tiring dealing with the remnants of the viewing public & party goers of the parade & such. i am happy to not have to deal with that on top of my own crap with the day.

My mood has been quite 'swingy' the past few weeks. Never been drinking alcohol, don't have friends and trying to fake it like I'm enjoying this day.
