My birthday is today, and in a way I'm happy... I'm a year older and a year wiser. I'm a little further along in this journey we call life, and for the most part I would never live my life over again.
On the other hand I'm approaching middle age, and I feel like I'm getting old. I wish I could just go back 10 years and stay there!! |

I can see why reversing ten years & sticking there might appeal, but on the other hand ... Have you seen Groundhog Day? No matter how creative & enterprising you are, you are bound to eventually exhaust the pleasures & possibilities of any one age.
And as I come up on 66 yrs--even acknowledging all the unexpected physical & mental health problems that pop up with annoying frequency--I am not displeased with the richness of my life as each day follows slightly different from the one before. Amazing people pass through, I go to places I never expected to be, & experiences come my way that sometimes seem to belong to someone else's life. Nope, I wouldn't have predicted any of it ... but I'm curious what's next. So you might want to rethink that wish. Or just be glad it won't be coming true. There are some rough days, & an occasionally devastating one. Most are fair to middlin'. And once in a while one is ... splendid.

Thanks for your post. It makes a lot of sense.
Everything in life is give and take, and that means that we acquire wisdom and experience with our advancing years, but we have to grow older to do it. I hope the next years of my life are better than the past years... not to say there weren't some good times though. When I was a kid, I heard the term "mid-life crisis" and thought that seemed ages away... Now it's here. It's truly amazing how fast time goes! |

Nothing is written. At the tender age of 41, I'm planning on having a mid-life renaissance. No need to stick to the script if you're not happy with it. Fire the writer if you must and hire another one until you get it the way you want it...oh, and happy birthday, may you live to be 120.

Hi capricorn. I am 46 and have had a few peaks backward...remembering the clothing size I used to be able to wear, remembering the energy I had, longing for joints that don't hurt or a memory again lol. However, my sons are about to move out, one is seriously involved so a marriage might be on the way and grandchildren, I might return to university for a second degree (money permitting), and I am now one of the people who have life's answers and wisdom to pass on (YIKES) lol.
There is still so much left to look forward to. Freedom, finally to speak your mind because you care less what others think now. More experiences to talk about in conversation. Social accceptance finally in wearing what's comfortable instead of latest fashions lol. Let's celebrate together
