I hate to admit this, but I haven't been on an airplane since 1993. I would like to take a trip to southern Florida possibly Fort Myers area or Sanibel island. I would appreciate any advice from anyone who has visited or lives in Florida. Thanks!

How about - just have fun! Go soon though. Otherwise it will be hot and muggy...

I'd go soon, too. My dad lives in Florida (about an hour north of Orlando, in Ocala), and the most "summery" month we've been there was June, and it wasn't too bad -- quite pleasant, actually. I'd avoid July and August; the humidity can get really unbearable.

Have fun!

November through May are the best times. Even then we may have spells of 90/90--humidity & temperatures. I personally hate the place .

Pretty good train service to the Orlando area from major urban areas, even auto train. I use it a lot. Terrific overnight from here to VA. Best thing going, I think. PM me for any ?s.

I am a few hours north of Ft Myers. This morning it was in the 30's here.

April is the most beautiful time of year - warm and sunny but not yet humid.
June through October are hot and humid.
That's just generally speaking. This year it was hot May through early November and beautiful (80) through Christmas; these are our first cold days. Generally thought it is unpredictable from January through March.

So it depends on what you are looking for. Some like the heat and humidity, others just want pleasantly warm

I live in the middle of the state. It was 26 degrees here this morning. Of course then it was near 80 last weekend. As you can tell the weather here is highly changeable during winter months.

The others are right summer months (June through September) can be extemely hot with high humidity. Then again, this lizard likes the heat!

Sanibel is beautiful, but expensive. The beaches a little further north in the Venice or Sarasota area are also beautiful but not as expensive.

Florida has lots of different things to see and do. What sort of stuff are you interested in?

Have fun! I love Florida. I stayed at the Holiday Inn on Sanibel Island back in 1997 and liked the hotel. It's right on the beach but the decor was simple, clean, not too fancy. I had a room with a little kitchenette that had a coffee percolator so I could have a simple breakfast right in the room. Of course this was quite a while ago so it may have changed since then. The Sanibel beaches are lovely and it's a great place to look for shells. There is even a shell museum. The only drawback with the island is that it's quite small and the roads are narrow. So sometimes in season it can take forever to drive from one place to another. As you probably know with Florida during the winter, sometimes it is balmy and sometimes it's chilly. You just never know. I went one year and wore T-shirts and sandals the entire time. Then a few years later I had to walk the beach each day in my wool sweater. But there will still be the ocean, salty air, sea birds, shells and the lovely clacking sound of the palms. Yay... Enjoy.

Concerning flying - the flight into Miami is one of the prettiest and I would imagine all flights into Florida are.
