Has anyone had a revelation like this? On the one hand I understand now why I can't keep a job nor a relationship with almost anyone long term. On the other hand it would have been nice to know this 33 years ago.
![]() I am a little thundersturck trying to figure out what to do next. ![]() I am a tad bit upset with my parents and family for hiding this from me. ![]() |

Well I was dropped on my head as an infant about 2 months old and 3 years ago went through the windshield of a car at 50 mph and last year got run over as a pedestrian at 45 mph and was in a coma. I suffer significant traumatic brain injury and short term memory loss. I to struggle with relationships and work. In fact I'm on leave now looking fir assistance. I have to write notes for myself for everything . It's a pain but it works. Good luck!

Hello & Welcome, Mountain Man!
I have not. "Thunderstruck" sounds like a good description. What have you considered doing? Do you have an understanding of the medical aspects of what happened to you? Can you talk with a medical doctor or counselor or therapist? Feel free to ignore my questions. I'm trying to imagine what would be running through my head if I found myself in your situation. Also, PsychCentral's has a sister NeuroTalk community (there's a Traumatic Brain Injury forum there).

welcome. i suffered some cognitive brain damage 4 years ago from medication. for 1 year i was over medicated...because of that i have little or no memory of that year, had to relearn to read & write, have difficulty with some basic skills now..& at that time got stopped for 2 dwi, fell suffered a blood clot etc. it was a night mare.
i am still struggling with the effects of this..i rarely read now..where as my house if filled with books...& where before i authored a novel, now it is impossible for me to try & do that again..sometimes e mails are a challenge as are cooking meals & other daily skills. but it's better than it was...i work on puzzles & such to improve . it's difficult tho because i lost some of the things i enjoyed most...cooking & reading, & writing. i also suffered many concussions from head injuries as a kid due to abuse & then from sports & work..so i am sure that didn't help any either. good luck in your struggles..find a good doc & therapist who can help you deal with improving & the frustrations. |
