I am a highly creative person, but I am not artistic. I can't draw or paint, play an instrument, or decorate cakes. My hands can't create what my eyes can see. I want to do something other than surf the internet that's creative. I can cook and write parodies of songs, but mostly my creative side is stored in my head. I can envision so many wonderful things and pair things together to make something great, but I can't build it or draw it.

Another problem I have is that I am broke ($3.84 in my bank account). I could garden, but there is no money to buy the plants.

What are some low-cost ideas for a creative outlet?

unfortunately, buying the fabric and the sewing machine would cost more than a pre-made suit...and I would be so terrible at it that it would just be a ball of sewn-together fabric.

But that just brightened my day. (:

I saw a remarkable special last night called James May's toy stories. In the episode he set out to construct a flower garden entirely out of something called Plasticine, I think it is form of oil based modelling clay. In the beginning of the show he brought several hundred pounds of the stuff to a busy rail station set up a booth and let people stop buy and just see what they could make, it was remarkable what these people were able to sculpt using their hands and very simple tools.

Dr. Skipper, I bring this up to say that you just have to find your right outlet for creativity and you too can become a "scultper" of your dreams and ideas.
Thanks for this!

Learn automatic drawing. If you have some soft colored pens laying around, just take a paper and lead your subconscious lead... as you master it, really cool things can come out.....

I'm more of a crafty than artistic person because I don't have the talent to create what I can imagine. Collaging is cheap (glue and old magazines) and is easy. I've had some of my projects come out very well and I found the process engaging and enjoyable.

I think I'm going to collage now, too!! Another really good idea is what I call "found poetry". You take a book, song lyrics, poetry book, newspaper article, etc. & you selectively take lines for use in your own poem. It's really fun. I did one for school on Lord of the Flies & the Hobbit with all of the homosexual innuendos. LMAO XD

You could try writing what you 'see.' If you enjoy writing enough you could even start a blog, which is kind of fun even if no one ever visits. Draw silly pictures in Microsoft Paint.

Oh! Here's an easy craft thing my grandma showed me how to do when I was little:
Take two rectangular pieces of wax paper, get a bunch of bits of multi-colored crayons and put them between the papers. Finally, use a hot iron to melt them and smooth them out. Viola, colorful and fun art. I think you can glue a border of construction paper on before you melt it to dress it up too.

If you have a Michaels art center near you (or Aaron Brothers). You can cruise the aisles and see a plethora of things to do including:

Wood cutting kits
Glass etching kits
Some very intracate paint by numbers (sounds silly, but they're quite meditative)
Sand Art
Various White Plaster figures to paint
Doll house Kits (they have a wonderful lighthouse one)
Shadow Boxes (some people collect keepsakes in them to use as gifts)
Scrapbooking
Vase decorating
Jewelry making

Ect...

I write and/or wander down the "crafts" aisles in the library pulling out a book here and there for ideas. I always wanted to learn/teach myself to macrame http://www.wikihow.com/Macrame and make "practical" things. . . like a hammock; never mind that I don't have two trees. Got a pencil and a piece of string? :-)
