I am sorry, I think I may have posted this in the wrong category, please don't get mad.

I keep telling myself that I don't believe in the whole 'end of the world' thing and I really don't want anyone preaching to me about religion or their strong beliefs, but I was hoping to find at least one person who shares the same thoughts as mine. Every huge storm or power outage or strong wind gusts I keep thinking... what if it is true? Then there was the solar flare and although NASA says it happens every 11 years they also say there should be another huge on in 2020 or something like that? I love my family and I get anxiety over every thing that could potentially endanger them, but I hate having these thoughts because I honestly don't want to believe the world will end.
I also feel very angry when people clearly state their beliefs with their 'facts' to back them up and this and that and I just wish they keep their mouths shut and thoughts to themselves.

Thanks for reading my rant.. I feel a little better getting this out there, but I would feel much better talking to someone who has the same feelings/thoughts. Anyone...?

There is a lot of misinformation out there about the 2012 Mayan Prophecy. Hear it from the source..... the Maya people. Here are a couple of videos that might help you understand the beauty of the prophecy.

It is the return of wisdom. Find peace and be happy..... not to be afraid... A change. It has happened many times before. It is not the end of the world.

Message to Humanity..... to all who listen.... return of the ancestore and the men of wisdom.... let the moring come let the dawn come.... Don't be afraid.

No words the world will end.... enough war.... enough building weapons... weapons to kill people.... to destroy nature... instead of many weapons.... manufacture something else.... used to help humanity and not to get rid of humanity.

Spread the word of true message.

There have always been "predictions" about the earth ending. I found out just last year that my 2nd great grandfather and his son, my 2nd great grand uncle, both Methodist ministers, were preaching the end along with others in the 1890's; I even found a newspaper article written about them.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...alyptic_events

I don't know why someone else would know this and not me I'll take my cue from the majority/"government"?

Remember "Y2K" Back then all the computers were supposed to shut down, planes would fall out of the sky, the banks would suddenly lose all of our money, the nuclear missles would launch and civilization would end. 1/1/2000 just turned out to be another day.

I take little stock in any of this domesday nonsense, when held up under scientific scrutany there is simply nothing behind any of these pronouncements.

my advice ladyjane4rent, just live your life for the moment, the best you can, the universe will take care of itself.

I understand what you are going through. I struggle with the same thing. The references given to you in previous replies are excellent. Just remember somebody is always predicting something. I have to keep reminding myself of this all the time.

Just letting you know you aren't alone.

My dreams usually come true and I had a dream Friday night the world was going to end Thursday at 2:32pm... However this was before the time change so I guess that would make really 3:32pm, and then I'm not sure if it was EST time, Central or Pacific so could be earlier... Hope this helps

Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but I remember reading on facebook something about leap years and how the Mayans didn't account for that so we basically missed 2012. Or something like that.

I never got the "The world will end because their calendar ends" thing... my calendar ends every year, I buy a new one. Maybe the Mayans didn't get a chance to make a new one since the Conquistadors killed them?

Live your life, I'm young and I've lived through tons of "apocalyptic" events.

Indeed, they just never got round to finding another stone...

And since you've got a family no doubt you've lived through the world ending three times, y2k, 2010 and I think there was one in 2004...

I predict the world will end in about 40 million years when the sun will expand to the extent that the planet will be part of the sun

from what I heard it is not gonna be end of the world, but turning point of the civilization... which would not really be a suprising thing.

I was beside myself when the Y2K event with all the computers going to foul up. I fill my bath with water (seems silly now) stocked a room full of tinned food.

As each nation around the world celebrated the new year (and nobodies lights went out) I began to relax. I was petrified and people laughed at me. But I just couldn't shift it.

Each year has its own tragedies, twisters, earth quakes, tsunamis, fires, floods, wars, illnesses etc. No point in worrying about any of them. If you need to do anything constructive you will take steps as advised if it happens in your area.

I also learned that not watching the news was a great relief. TV seems to bring possibilities into the picture that will never happen. If you must hear some news just use the radio as they only seem to have short burst of news and don't come with the graphics that can in themselves be traumatizing.

I have also heard the predictions of the world ending and comets etc. So far nada (nothing).

So just a day at a time hun.

We are all in this together........... Chat again in 2013.
Thanks for this!

ya know indigenous people around the world have been humiliated, oppressed, conquered and left for dead for thousands of years. The disrespect for indigenous cultures expressed on this thread sickens me. And even worse, I don't think anyone here sees it.

The Mayans are real people with a real and distinct culture. Who are you people to make fun of their beliefs? Do you even notice you are doing it? Why can't people respect indigenous cultures enough not to mock them? You may have colonized the world but must you rub it into the faces of indigenous cultures? ARe you so much better than everyone else that you can make fun of another?

Why isn't anyone interested in learning from the message? Learn from the wisdom of the Elders; the wisdom of ancient yet thriving cultures? Why isn't anyone interested in learning about other cultural beliefs? Are you bigot or just school yard bullies? Are you afraid someone might know a better way of viewing life on earth and it just might not coincide with the dominant euro-centric capitalist view?

I may sound hurt and argumentative and I may be insulting in my frustration with systemic bigotry and euro-centric world views but I do want to learn. I do want to understand why it remains socially acceptable to attack, mock or disrespect another's cultural beliefs and practices.

The places we call home are soaked in the blood of Native American people like other indigenous groups whose cultures and traditional ways of life were viewed by invaders as wrong or at very least primative and of no value. We make excuses for our ancestors slaughter of indigenous populations but we have made no gains. I wonder what excuses our grandchildren will make for us.

SNow, in a way I agree with you. It bother me the whole "tee-hee, nothing is gonna happen". Look at what happened since 2000. A lot of things. It ain't going well. We may as well be crumbling as civilization, so I guess to make fun of Mayans is a way to deal with what we do know deep inside. That we are on the wrong track, that we do have problem.

If things are that swell, then why there is need for communities like this. 25% of Americans have problem diagnosable by DSM, the stats say. So quarter of Americans is troubled. Here in Europe we have troubles too, look how much we drink and all. We are not happy bunch, here in West. We done many things wrong and maybe now we are bunch of lost souls. It did not make us happy in long term..........

so yeah, maybe we should learn from others. And we can only hope nothing is going to happen to shake our collective consciousness to the core... but it seems it might be the only thing to move us.

From what I read in the bible sometime ago it was not known when the end of the world would be. I suppose one can only see what is unravelling in the skies: solar flares bringing chaos to electricity, satnavs and internet, the usual calamatious floods, hurricanes and natural disasters. And there will always be war somewhere. In the meantime we just get on with living.

The thing is if really should get on living like this. It is not sustainable. There was a test on internet I once took - a greenie and quite ecological person I am - about how much planets would we need if everybody was like me in their consumption. It was 3 and half - and I don't even own a car.

I am not saying to give up all earthly possesion now... maybe we should really stop and think every now and then. It's not even making us happy in large scale...
