I hate to say this. I have to tell someone.
I sit in this office 12 hours a night from 7pm to 7am. My office mate is half off her knocker and OCD with slurping tea the entire twelve hours. I have been hear for a year and suffered through this disturbingly disgusting noise every single night. She is f___ing disgusting and I can't take it anymore. I am not exaggerating when I say - she seriously makes tea all night long and drinks it obsessively. So I hear this obnoxious slurping for 12 hours. It is torture. She is supe sensitive and acts like I am the sourly confused one when I say something observant as raises her eyebrows and throw the classically demeaning and offensive "OHkaaaaaay..." at me. OR there was one time I told her the noises she makes sounds like the ones I make to summon my cat. When she talks to herself [quite often] but only loudly enunciates the 'S' so throught eh vivid silence of our office all I hear is 'ss...s.sss.pwspwswsws...' and 'sluuuuuuuuuuurp!' Is that... oh yeah, it is... I found a staple gun.. I'll uh... be right back with this.. Remedy me, someone, please.

Hide her tea? Or replace her tea with one of the night time teas?
Are there any teas with sedating effects? I'm only half joking. I think you should think of something super annoying to do in retaliation. I'm only half joking again. Can you wear head phones? Hide all of her tea cups?

On one of your days off tape record yourself slurping, this sssss sound & talking to yourself obnoxiously.
Hit play every time she makes these noises. If she continues just put your recording on continuous or loop. At least you will be listening to yourself "half" the time. OR record her one night & let her listen to herself or let someone over you listen to her "sounds". Desperate times call for desperate measures. ![]() Story: husband told me after we were married that on our first date if I'd eaten with my mouth open & smacked my food we'd have never had a second date. Same was true with him, it grossed both us out. Manners & consideration hold true married or not. I don't know how you've tolerated it this long... |

Thanks for increasing the misconception of what OCD is.

Whether they are labelled or not, behaviors bother others and they have a right to their feelings. In a work setting, we all have to be sure to not annoy others because there is work to get done.
What about a white noise machine? I don't know much about them but wonder if it would minimize her sounds. Could you listen to something other than music? Comedy? Recorded books? Could you listen to them at low volume without the earbuds? (I think earbuds and headphones get annoying after a while). Can you move where you sit so you aren't close enough to hear her slurps? Just some thoughts! ![]() |

well, maybe the listener has OCD. these things can get complicated. there was also a chatty cathy where I worked - she drove everyone nuts, except me - until I got medicated! then once I was "normalized" via meds, my work performance started to go downhill partly because of her constant badgering. admin used her as a tool, to torture anyone they wanted to get rid of.

I think you are mistaking. This was not to be taken out of context, it was a rant. I was expressing myself with a metaphor of sorts... take this for example: Jack is to checking locks three times as my CoWorker is to always having a cup of tea every hour per hour for 12 hours. A perfectly assumed scenario.

@kinaholic, I agree that those things are disgusting as well. My coworker also does that. There are so many things that bother me about her, but when I hear a chip bag rustling and then the crunching down on each chip with an open mouth. It makes the sound of eating louder when you do it with your mouth open! I am addicted to disliking everything about this woman, I swear.
@hankster - that is yet again another thing that she does. She does not stop talking. There were times I had to write 12 page reports and I had to keep saying "okay, let me write this now..." a person with common sense would acknowledge this as a polite way of saying shut the heck up, can't concentrate... but she just ignore it and kept talking. Sorry, not "kept" but "keeps" and "continues." Plus she keeps telling the saaaaaame stories over and over and they are so pointless. Nothing work related. The only time it is work related is when she is complaining about something. Then I have to hear is rephrased 16 times in a row because she can't stop repeating herself.

@jimrat - I am not diagnosing her with an OCD, like I said, I am expressing myself. I thought it was rude to take my words out of context and it was also off the topic. Don't blame me for being offended. I am guessing you are a touchy about being OCD yourself? It isn't like a life threatening illness that no one can talk about or make reference to.
@triciadrich - Wouldn't it be funny if I spontaneously said "I love that slurping noise one makes while drinking. Just knowing how the hot drink is being sucked in between two lips to make such a comforting noise puts me at ease and satisfies me" Maybe if I get 100% creepy on her, she will see. lol - then she will tell my manager I am a creep.

It is a serious mental illness with a lot of ruined lives and a lot of suffering and pop culture came did it look like a harmless personality quirk. Yea, I'm sensitive. I'm also sensitive when someone refers to themselves has having dementia (jokingly) because they forgot their lipgloss at home, and all people thinking depression is being a little bit sad but mostly lazy.

Yes, but you can't rag on every single person for what they say just because you've got a problem with it. It wasn't meant in a harmful way and it certainly wasn't meant for you. Obviously we all have one issue or another on here and how would think it'd be for everyone to attack eachother for things said? You think I punch a man in the face everytime I get hit on just because I was raped? No.. but if I had your point of view I suppose I would.

I am not certain what type of work you do, but, would you be able to wear earplugs?

Apart from that ladyjane4rent never said her co-worker had OCD, she said she obsessively drank and slurped tea. Since when does doing something obsessively equate to having OCD?
