I have a job interview for Target, a retail store, on Friday. I don't know what all to tell the woman who will be interviewing me. I am on disability so I can't make more than $1000 a month before being considered that I am no longer disabled. So I have to tell her I am only wanting part time, maybe up to 20 hours a week. What if she asks me why I can't work full time? What if she asks why I haven't been working the past 2 years? It is because I couldn't handle it having mental disability but now I believe I am ready for the part time job. Actually that isn't even entirely accurate, I have no idea if I am capable of the job. I am going to try, but I don't want her knowing I might quit after a few days if I can't handle it. I know there's a disability act that says you can't discriminate based on a disability but she can certainly choose to not hire me anyway. Should I just not mention any of this to her?

I wouldn't mention it at all. I'd say that I couldn't commit to more than x amount of hours due to personal committments. Or if possible, you could say you're studying part time. Both of these can also explain why you've been unemployed so long. Anyway, that's just what I'd say at the interview...

I would definitely not mention it. Just say that you can only work x hours a week due to personal commitments.
Good luck with the interview. splitimage |

Simply tell the one interviewing you that you are available these days & these hours. You are simply unable to work more than X amount of hours per week (or month). You are really interested in the job, but these are the times that you are available to work.
Hope that your interview goes well. ![]()

Please do not mention it. I don't think you have to give an excuse - if asked, just say you are applying for a part-time job only. A lot of employers - especially retailers - now prefer part-time employees because they do not have to pay them benefits.
