LOL......I was just posting something & noticed my cantering horse in my sig & the question just popped into my mind.......

Wonder how many miles that poor horse has run since I started posting here in 2004?

I didn't actually post a signature for about a year......so I guess this poor horse has been cantering all this time since about fall of 2005 he's got to either be really tired or in really good shape.

Ok, this is about the craziest post I have ever posted here.....oh well.....sometimes the mind just wacks out a bit.

I'm assuming you'd know how many feet per gallop given you're a horse person?

Let me know and then I'll tell you how many miles he's run.
Thanks for this!

Don't know...the little guy's only about 3 inches long.....don't think his gallop's by feet....but maybe by inches....maybe 2 inches per gallop, I'd say best guess. That would take about 6 gallops to go a foot & one gallop takes about a second???????

Don't think he'll win the Kentucky Derby.

Ok i was measuring his steps assuming the picture wasn't to scale . . .

2 inches per second. i guess we calculate from there. how many seconds you'lve been online, etc.
Thanks for this!

60 seconds/minute
60 minute/hour
24 hour/day
365 day/year (except for 366 in leap years) so add a couple of extra days in there for that
been here just over 7 1/2 years (close enough for government work)
= 2740 days approximately

1 mile = 63360 inches
86400 seconds/day

horse runs 2 inches / second = 172800 inches/day = 2.73 (rounded up) miles/day (slow boat to china definitely NOT a derby winner...lol) for approximately 2740 days

= 7480.2 miles..... poor horse has to be exhausted running all those miles without a break even though it's only 2.73 miles per day which is reallllllllly slow for a horse.

Ok for the math quiz for the day.....luckily I didn't have to use calculus since I didn't have to calculate any area under a curve.....just a straight line going on forever.......

What a boring race for that poor horse to run.

eskie, but is it running if nobody's reading your post?

Because the horse only 'runs' when someone opens a page where your animal is featured.

So you might have to calculate how long that's been.
Thanks for this!

Have no idea where to find that kind of information.....those statistics aren't available.....at least not to the common viewers

Since he is running on air, it's got to be easier on his joints.

I love seeing your running horse! What a great sig! I must say he really does have a lot of stamina! Maybe we can believe that he is resting when you're not on PC, though!
Thanks for this!

luckily, I just put that little bunny up a few weeks ago when I finally got around to updating for spring so it's not as full as it could have been

Unless someone's been feeding him horsey treats while I'm not looking....I have to admit to a mild level of forgetting to feed him without a lot of input....there's not gonna be a lot of output.....but he doesn't look like he's suffering from anorexia or from over exercising......YET

I'm sure the cup is probably close to overflowing by now....maybe I need to add a little pooper scooper running along behind him to keep my signature clean

Would he be cantering or do you think that is more of a gallop?

It does look like it's just barely the 4 stride of the gallop rather than the 3 of the canter....but it's sure close...lol......think your's right.

I always have a hard time counting strides.....especially when I'm on top of the horse.

Mister always loved the hand gallop in the higher level dressage....I think it took him back to his racing days of his younger days.....you could feel the smile on his face....lol.
