bb2023, you are so right! There is so much we don't know. That's why I always tell my kids to keep and open mind. "Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not there". That's how I raise them.
You can only learn new things by realizing there's something you don't know. I don't ever want the learning to stop. Discovering things is so exciting.

Hi bb2023,

I don't believe in mermaids, but that isn't important.

What I really wanted to say is that is a GREAT quote, and surprisingly I have never heard it before. I love it! Is it yours? Did you just make that up off the top of your head, or is it a common quote?

I'm asking, because I might like to use that quote as 'character dialogue,' and I refuse to take someone's words without asking.

I'm not being facetious. I really am asking.

Love it,

Oh my god, Contrast!

Are you suggesting that mermaids ingest Seamen! That's why so many fishermen are reported missing, each year!

There's your hook!

The program was fictional. Sorry I didn't watch it myself but after reading your post I was hoping it was true. Maybe it was presented as a "true dramatization" or contained some other misleading come on. Are you familiar with the radio dramatization of War of the Worlds in the 1930's or 1940's that was presented to sound as if it were real?

I do believe in pollution and chemical contamination caused by fracking. There is no doubt about that.
I hate to burst your bubble, but they didn't present the War of the Worlds as real, they stated right from the beginning that it was a dramatization --but there were a lot of people that missed that announcement or weren't paying attention at the beginning.

is that true? I wasn't there, but I thought that there was no announcement of truth or fiction as such. the guy just read the story. people who did assume it was truth went kinda nuts - or maybe they were already there.

There's an interesting wikipedia article on it. It says this:

Quote:
Later studies indicate that many missed the repeated notices about the broadcast being fictional, partly because The Mercury Theatre on the Air, an unsponsored cultural program with a relatively small audience, ran at the same time as the NBC Red Network's popular Chase and Sanborn Hour. About 15 minutes into Chase and Sanborn, the first comic sketch ended and a musical number began, and many listeners began tuning around the dial at that point. According to the American Experience program The Battle Over Citizen Kane, Welles knew the schedule of Chase and Sanborn and scheduled the first report from Grover's Mill at the 12-minute mark to heighten the audience's confusion. As a result, some listeners happened upon the CBS broadcast at the point the Martians emerge from their spacecraft. Because the broadcast was unsponsored, Welles and company could schedule breaks at will rather than structuring them around necessary advertisements. As a result, the only notices that the broadcast was fictional came at the start of the broadcast and about 40 and 55 minutes into it.

I think you really would have loved to have burst my bubble but I didn't have a bubble lol. Read my post again
And then read Costello's post and then read this:

Yes I loved this documentary instead of people trying to say its a hoax they don't get the bigger picture that we should be open to the possibility that we are not the only beings in this world. But the scientist did have a point that its better we never find them anyway cause we will probably drive them to extinction like we've done to countless other creatures.

It is very interesting to watch, I am watching it right now on Animal Planet. And the navy has kept this a secret because they don't want to stop their radar testing.

I think this is horrible that we would destroy such a wonder as this, it is very human like, but developed ways to communicate like dolphins and whales. They have hands like us and make tools. They are REAL.

I hope they get this known and there is an eventual court order to stop this testing which could cause this wonderful human mermaid to become extinct before we even get to see and enjoy what was thought as a mythical creature is actually REAL after all.

Don't belive me? I am watching it right now on Animal Planet. I am very amazed and upset that this was kept a secret by the Navy.

What is wrong with people that they would keep something so amazing hidden and risk it's extinction?

OMG i could on about this FOREVER! i watched this documentary. it actually is not real... just btw. the new york times verified that. http://tv.nytimes.com/2012/05/26/art...zaK8HPI5+xdtJQ

but it was so so so convincing. makees you think dosn't it?

it is similar to the one they made on dragons... which was also portrayed as a real event. but all of the speakers are actors, and are scripted. its made to make you think it is a real documentary, but it really is a work of fiction. thats not to say mermaids aren't real... i keep and open mind about that. but this story is all speculative. the whale beachings were real tho, but the part about the navy and everything is all speculative.

Oh, I remember when I watched this, at the time the way it was set up it looked real.
Ofcourse afterwards it was admitted it was a hoax. We "do" find different species we never knew existed, so I was completely caught "off guard". I often watch NatGeo and I had noticed some recent discoveries of some "new species" as well as discovering species thought to be "extinct". Infact I just watched something on Bison that were thought to be extinct, yet a small herd was discovered and they have set up a program to increase the numbers of them.

Yes, I noticed they did the same thing with "dragons" but it was stated this time "more clearly" that it was fiction.

I didn't keep up with this thread, I never realized it was so active. I also like the statement of "dont collect kindling if you don't want to start a fire". hmmm, have to remember that one.
