I find it bewildering...the tabloid mentality, news flashes even on "serious" sites about the likes of the Kardashians, or most any movie star. These people get rich for having done nothing most of the time. I think our society has the wrong priorities! especially as it affects young people, like my middle school students. Seems like a "dumbing down" to me!
there...I had my rant!
Thanks for this!

((((Seeker)))) I could go on for DAYS about this subject - lol! You are absolutely correct. Unfortunately, in this day and age, priorities with the media send the absolute wrong message. Especially to our youth.

I suspect it makes it even harder for a parent or guardian (or teacher!) to help their kids grow up to be responsible, well-balanced human beings when they are being bombarded with the likes of the Ks, sports figures and all the garbage that the children are watching.
Thanks for this!

The end game is MONEY! Let me shove the lifestyles of the celebrities in your face to the point where you have to buy the clothes they wear, the shoes they wear, the sunglasses they wear, the handbags they carry etc.

An ordinary sneaker is not enough for some of today's youths. "I want the one Michael Jordan or Lebron James or Tim Tebow wears."

Our "new" culture teaches us that we can identify with the celebrities by fashioning their lifestyles and that in turn will make us popular.

I agree wholeheartedly, seeker1950!

Our society is all f'd up nowadays. It wasn't ever perfect, of course, but we've lost so much common decency and respect. People are beyond self-centered & it scares the bejeezers out of me!! I hope that things start to improve in society, rather than continue to go downhill.

I agree! But have to add 1 more item to the rant... The word/title, CELEBRITY, what exactly are these people, ANY of them, being CELEBRATED for? Sure, I admire Johnny Deppe's art, he's a bloody amazing actor, but that's his craft, his job isn't it? Why aren't accountants CELEBRATED?
