I'm craving tattoos right now. I have two, both are butterflies. I'd like a nature tattoo, and a tattoo representing bipolar without anyone else being able to tell why I chose this.

I know there was a tattoo discussion in the bipolar forum once upon a time, but why not here?

Post pictures of tattoos you have, would like to have, or what you enjoy in general.

First tattoo: Tattoos

2nd Tattoo: Tattoos
Thanks for this!

Tattoos

Seriously considering this one, for both nature and bipolar. Need some ideas on how to play on that: one side can be green with a little person resting against it, the other multiple colors and blowing away and someone playing in the leaves. Not sure how that'd work with it so small.
Thanks for this!

I have two tattoos, and they're both on my back, so I can't really get a good pic. But I have a really cool gargoyle on my right shoulderblade, and my first son's name on my lower back. That one didn't come out too great. Not really what I wanted. But oh well. I'm planning on getting another one, on my left shoulder blade. I want a set of footprints with both my son's names and birthdays.

I have a tattoo done when I was 17 ~ on my inner ankle. It says FTW...I'll let you figure out what that means!

P.S. I now say it means, "feed the world" when asked about it.

At what point do wanting tattoos cross over into a manic phase? What's the difference between a tattoo phase and a manic phase? My dad says I don't seem manic, but then why am I pursuing tattoos so much and why do I want so many without knowing what I want?

Here is my tattoo... It symbolizes me going a full year without cutting. The orange is the color of the ribbon for self injury awareness and its over my scars so i don't cut there. I need it touched up though cause some of the lines are not straight, and I'm kinda disappointed in the artist who did it.

Lovely tattoo.

Can I just say though I thought that you weren't allowed to have a tattoo over self harm scars that is what my artist told me.

Congrats on on not self harming

krisakira,

I really like your tattoo, very pretty colors and 3D! I like the symbolization even more though!!

I'm sorry that you've had to have some modifications to the tattoo due to errors made by the artist. I think that it looks very nice now though!

Thanks for this post!! I have one tattoo (for now). It's in Kanji Japanese lettering and says, "Fighting Spirit." I've got my next one planned, I just have to tweak the details (it's going to be calligraphy, so colors/lines/etc.) and it will be in Latin (I like getting stuff that people can't immediately "get".)

I plan to get a couple more as well, but that's for when I lose some weight.

By the way, I LOOOVE your avatar Dr Skipper,

Oh yeah, in answer to your mania question. I wondered the same when I got my first. As soon as I saw it in a book I was fixated---planning, figuring out what I wanted it to look like, etc. I was actually hypomanic during that time, but I don't regret the tattoo.

I have enough wherewithal now that if I want one, I give myself at least a couple of months of researching, determining if I really want it. Besides the fact that I'm OCD and want to make sure whomever does the ink knows what they're doing and doesn't ***** it up. Not to mention the money issue.

I want a tattoo of a white rabbit on my shoulder like the one in the move The Matrix.

Also would like a horse on my lower back but still looking for a pattern.

I had a cutting phase but got over it (but my parents have not).

Was the tattoo triggering at all? When I was getting mine, I was thinking about if that was how "real" cutting felt like (I was a crummy cutter which is one reason why it was just a phase.)
