flooding caused by rising tides and wind are the big issues here in NYC. the storm is supposed to hit at high tide. the east river, which is across the street from my apartment, is due to rise 6 to 11 feet. it will be in the lobby of the rear entracne of my building. fortunately, the other entrance is raised by 30 feet or so. if the building is flooded, the electricity will be turned off and there will be no running water. the hot water was turned off late yesterday afternoon.

We have about 4 or 5 inches of snow and we're anticipating possibly a foot more. The winds are supposed to pick up too. I'm afraid we might lose our electricity. But we're prepared with a source of heat and plenty of food and water.

I'm close to D.C. It's getting very windy now with big gusts at times. I think its stopped raining for now. I expect that tonite it will get bad, and am pretty sure the power will go out this evening or later due to the high winds. The power then will probably be off for a while as its not safe here for the men who work for the power companies.
Per the news here, the winds have to get to 35 mph before they can work on the lines.
I guess thats it for now...the worse is still to come so we will see

So far it's not too bad here...just some wind and a little rain. But it's supposed to get much worse. In my area, winds are expected to reach up to 60mph, and there's supposed to be heavy rain, and extended power outages.

My roommate and I have plenty of food and water and other beverages, and res life staff brought us flashlights as well. We don't have any candles though since they aren't allowed in college housing...

And, my school has a plan in place, so if there is extended power outage, all residents of the campus apartments and townhouses will be moved into the dorms or the campus center since they have backup generators, but the apartments and townhouses don't...and classes are canceled for tomorrow along with all other nonessential functions.

Thnking of all of you in the path of the storm. Be safe.

Having survived multiple hurricanes here in Florida I can't imagine dealing with hurricane and cold/snow.

It's getting worse here in central Virginia and I don't mind saying I'm scared. We were in the same house when Issac came through and it was extremely dangerous. One of the trees completely flattened my neighbors cop car. I live in the country and there are LOTS of trees. I don't expect we will make it through the night with power. I hate for it to storm at night when I will be asleep. I've packed a bag in case we have to run out.

It's pretty bad here on Long Island with winds and flooding. I am thankful to still have power but my two year old is terrified. Poor kid just wants to sleep!

Here in NJ trying to sleep because power has been out for 3 hours now. Winds are scary to hear in the dark of night. Laptop is working because i had it charged but I will turn off shortly to conserve its power. Don't know how long we won't have electricity. At least we had plenty of warning and good advice offered by the media and governor. Thanks to everyone who is thinking of us on the eastcoast.

Im in the basement, with my laptop plugged in with plenty of supplies. I live on Long Island New York and the nearest main road is flooded, but im near the highway which is relatively on high ground. Most of Manhattan is underwater my prayers go out to them ((((unhappyguy))))))) I know hes there.

But the worst of it is over, I dont think it will get worse, the winds are dying down and high tide is over.

I made it through the night and through most of it, will go to bed soon, and if I lose power I lose power, but Im hopeful its gone by the time I wake up

Thanks for all prayers I wouldnt have got through this today without PC

this is a huge storm you are facing over there- my hopes and prayers are being sent to all of you who are being affected- please try and stay safe

I'm from Australia and we get big cyclones over here during the summer so we do know how scary they are, Some of our tv news channels are covering your storm 24 hrs a day , they don't do that unless it's of the highest priority !! once again "stay as safe as you can "

Cheers

The weather here is still fine. The rain is actually that perfect amount where it's relaxing and calming, so I turned the TV way down so I can hear the rain as I'm falling asleep.

Just wanted to give a special ((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))) to all our friends by West Virginia, Kentucky and Tennessee and wherever else that are still being affected by a tremendous amount of snow. The east coast made it through but let us not forget our friends that are still being affected by 12-24 inches of snow.

My prayers are with you all.

Be safe

It's sleeting and snowing here, upwards of a foot in some places, winds at 40-50 mph through tonight, downed trees, and hopefully we won't lose power. If we do, we have gas heat and a camping stove. And a BBQ grill. It's supposed to freeze tonight, so all these wet nasty roads are going to be a slippin' slide by tomorrow. It's in the 30s right now, but by tonight the temp is supposed to drop a lot. The weather was so bad yesterday that I didn't get to the grocery store, I went straight home from work. We were on a delayed schedule today, but I'm not sure about tomorrow, if it's too bad we might not even make it in. My thoughts and prayers are with the ones who are worse off than we are here, especially the families of those who have died.

Some places are moving Halloween officially to Saturday, because of Sandy. Monday night, there was no one in the audience for the Letterman show, I don't know what they're doing tonight, I think the subways are still closed. I just heard they are going to TRY to open the NYSE on Wednesday.

Everything seems to have stopped here in Southeast Pennsylvania. My town is housing those in NY and NJ who were hit bad. I feel like someone was looking out for my family the entire time. Unfortunately this storm has also intensified the senioritis that I have and I don't want to go back to school.

Some of our power here has been restored, some flooding has subsided, but still a lot of damage. However, in keeping up with the reports and knowing that things are not going well places, I hope everyone is hanging in there and doing ok. Stay safe. Hugs and prayers are with you.
