The temperature here is close to -40˚C (or for those in the U.S. -40˚F I think?) . The daily high today is -20˚C (-4˚F). The national environmental agency says that in these temperatures skin can freeze in 10 to 30 minutes .

I walked outside today to check on my spiders in their shed and I thought, "Wow, it's chilly outside today!" . At least my tire isn't frozen to my car again!

Notwithstanding the temperatures I will be the lonely dude walking down the street with a homemade milkshake from my favourite coffee house! . As far as I am concerned it's as good a time as any to enjoy chocolatey ice cream outside!

When I was talking to my mother about the new tarantula I am ordering (a Theraphosa blondi), we were talking about how to transport it in the winter, and I am like, "You'll have to hide her in your jacket!" Of course she doesn't mind, because she wants it more than I do .

Just thought I'd share some of my winter stories again! Now excuse me while I go kick my evidently not working furnace…

Hugs from:

That is cold! I was getting shivers just reading your post! Can your spiders take the cold? I really can't imagine being in that cold of a climate. Thanks for posting it is nice to know what others have to endure in the winter months. Stay warm my friend!

Glad I've never experienced that kind of cold!

You must have quite a setup in your shed if you're able to keep spiders alive in that kind weather.

If water freezes at 0 degrees centigrade and 32 degrees Fahrenheit does that relationship continue right down the line? boiling 100 centigrade and 212 Fahrenheit. Not sure how that works?

multiply Celsius times 1.8 + 32, no I guess they are the same at -40, -30 C is -22 F, -20 C is -4 F, -50 C is -58 F.

Thanks Fresia! I see you helped while I was looking at ask.com

Anyway too cold!!!!

(degrees C x 9/5) + 32 = degrees F
(degrees F - 32) x 5/9 = degrees C

Indeed it is cold here! The spiders are kept in a custom-built, heated shed outside. The walls are almost a foot thick and there is a heater on 24/7.

I love seeing the horrified reactions of people when they hear about the cold we have to live with .
