OK, those of you who lived in cold climes will probably fall off your chairs laughing, but please keep in mind I live in a subTROPICAL area.

We are getting our first really cold snap of the season tonight. There's a hard freeze warning out. Fruit growers have crews out in the fields picking as fast as they can. Anything that freezes tonight will be ruined. I spent an hour covering plants in the yard to protect them. Horses are double blanketed and tucked in their stalls for the night. I put one of my old sweatshirts on my dog who lives in the barn. Brought some of the outside plants that are in pots in the house. As soon as I log off the computer I'm lighting a fire in the fireplace.

Some food for thought for those of you laughing your b-hinds off. It was in the 80s here yesterday!

Thanks for this!

Moved from Florida in August. Sounds about right. You may want to check out my blog. Going through the differences between Idaho and Florida, which is, well, pretty much everything.

Falling of the chair laughing is exactly what I am doing! . It's like -24˚C/-11˚F outside where I am…and that's warm for this time of the year .

Quizzickle, I'm in west central Florida. Temps like this are not rare, but not common either. The radical shift from hot to cold to hot again is tough to cope with.

Mr. V, I remember temps that nasty from when I lived up north. This lizard would never last that kind of cold anymore.

Kelly, always glad to bring humor to someone's life!

Maranara, have you ever lived in the north before? Florida to Idaho would be a shock. I have a friend who is fifth generation Florida Cracker. When he enlisted in the Air Force his first station was in North Dakota. He was amazed to find out the ground froze! He about froze his backside off his first winter there.

I saw a Christmas special about people who overdo collections (I think it's called "My Crazy Obsession," and it was the Christmas episode), and this one woman has so many holiday lights on in her home--which, I believe she said, triples her electric bill--that she doesn't have to turn the heat on in December (thus, saving some money) because the temperature inside is in the 80's! She even showed a thermometer!

Good grief! That's a lot of lights!
