There should totally be a computers forum. But anyway, I figured this thread could be about anything and everything related to computers (within reason, of course).

I run Arch Linux and I've finally migrated to systemd. Darn proxy server made everything a pain. Now I'm catching up on over 2 GB worth of upgrades. Still a bunch of glitchy stuff, but I'll deal with them eventually.

For some plain English: I want a new laptop, darn it! Battery only holds a charge for maybe five minutes, headphone jack messes up the sound, the monitor is flimsy, it gets too hot, it's too big.... I could go on and on. It still works, though.

Your turn!

I don't know. I'm pretty good on my own...

It's pretty awesome! Simple with detailed documentation, and requires some playing with the code. I'm no experienced user, though; I've just played around in Linux for a few years. There's basic stuff I still don't know.

Do you use Linux?

And I'm assuming you know what I'm talking about. If not (and for everyone else), Linux is an operating system like Windows, but totally different. And better.
Thanks for this!

I have seen computers forums. There are even forums for various windows. There are several for windows 7.

I would like to see a computer section added to this forum.Between all of us we have a lot to offer each other.I buy various windows 7 books and get most of my learning from there.I know that if I need advice on win7 I can log into those forums and get advice.

I very much enjoyed my old laptop (dual boot windows and linux). It was great..especially the years I was majoring in computer science. Linux was required for programming but sometimes isn't as user friendly as windows (XP professional.. not this new crap where they hide all your options so you can't "mess anything up"). That's just dumb.

I understand that not every user needs to change their operating system but it's really annoying when you're trying to do something at all "advanced" and have to hunt all over for the options. I very much like my relatively new mac laptop. I find it user friendly for what I want. But I've got a friend who has a PC with windows 7. I swear every time I go over there to fix something for him (he's all thumbs) I have to unhide like 6 different layers of stuff. Seriously - he just wanted to play a dos game.. I shouldn't have to install a whole new program to override the operating system to get a dos prompt. I know dos is there, in the background... it shouldn't be that hard to access (and seeing as how I didn't want to uninstall windows and set up a partition for dos/linux to run to play a game written in the 80's).

lol *end rant* Sorry.. I was inspired by the comment about a 5 min battery life. That's why I finally replaced my PC laptop. I was going to school and had to have something that would hold a charge.

I used to think Macs were totally overpriced and a gimmick, until I got one! Now I absolutely love it to bits and can't praise them enough, if you have the money, buy a Mac you won't regret it

I have a 24" iMac with 8GB of RAM, a terabyte hard drive, and 3.06 GHz . The OS I have is OS X Lion .

Macs are the best computers I have ever used!

Would you like Windows to check for a solution online?
Sure.
Sorry, Windows was unable to find any solutions to this problem.

Nice!

I prefer PCs, though. Open them up, mix and match, always find parts for cheap.

Not currently, but I used several iterations of Ubuntu and am impressed with the elegance, security and power of Linux. Arch Linux seems like it would be a kind of natural step up from Ubuntu.

90% or more of the programs I use are well-represented in Linux. It's that 10% that keep me dual-booting or using Windows.
