Can I start a new weather thread since the old one is SO LONG and therefore now closed?? I enjoyed having a place to rant about the weather, LOL.

For us, after a very mild August that I was enjoying so much, it suddenly got really HOT & HUMID. No gradual warm-up! Now I'm miserable. Too hot to sleep well, even with the window open since the air is about 70 degrees overnight. No a/c either.

June, July and part of August was unrelenting heat - humidex reading in late 90's and 100. Now its very tolerable with temps in the 80's. Luckily we have AC and sorry its so hot for you nonightowl.

Power outages are usually the biggest PITA. Batteries, canned food, store as much water as you can, a chainsaw might come in handy, a generator is really good to have.
Carla was the only storm I ever had to use public shelter for. It was a bad storm but when we went home the house was fine. Good luck!

It's still hot here. I can't wait until we are back into normal, rainy weather. I miss the cool weather here. The heat actually is worse for me than the overcast days.

I've always been afraid of thunderstorms, even though they are rare here. It's the lightning that really scares me!

My heart goes out to Open Eyes and others on the East Coast.

But I didn't like how The Weather Channel didn't cover ANY other weather until Hurricane Irene passed. No local weather, no weather in the rest of the U.S. or WORLD...Stupid network. I didn't watch it for a couple of days, like I usually do each day for LOCAL conditions and the outlook for the week. Weather goes on 24/7 all over the globe, and they say they ARE the WEATHER CHANNEL. I used to have two other weather channels, but either the cable company or network took them away.

Again, not meaning to sound callous to the East Coast people. But the channel acted like a hurricane HAS NEVER occured before at all. It was (and is) newsworthy, but I thought it was "oversaturation".
