Hi Creative folks!

I could use some help here. I admit I totally stink at party planning, and while this one that I need to plan isn't till May this one is a particularly special party. I'll need all this time to work on getting ideas and things together. If you don't mind I could really use some help with party ideas, please?

My son will be graduating from high school in May, but not only is he graduating but he also has his 19th birthday just two days before he graduates. (He began later because of when his bday is.)

I am SO very proud of my son!!!!! Since moving to the area we are now he has dealt with a ton of bullying (even on one occasion we had to get the police involved) and other struggles including the sudden and unexpected passing of two of his closest friends. I would have understood (although not agreed) if he wanted to drop out of school simply because of what he's been through, but this is presicely why I am so incredibly proud of him for toughing it out and graduating.

This will be a dual purpose party obviously, and would sincerely appreciate any ideas you could offer of things we could do for these special occasions.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions you can offer!

Does he have any hobbies you can play off of? Video games? Have you asked him what he would like?
Thanks for this!

I was kind of hoping to surprise him as far as a theme. He is a HUGE fan of football! He loves playing video games too. Sadly I can't remember which ones he plays atm. I'm not sure I'd want any of those as a theme except for maybe his football or basketball ones, but we've done that before. I was kind of hoping to switch things up for this.

what about taking him to a live concertt of a band he likes (see if they are playing in your area)

hire out a hall/ hotel and have a sort of disco (get him to invite some of his friends)

go out for dinner somewhere he likes

buy him something special to do with his fave sports team- the kit, dvds, posters, what ever

just a few ideas

Hmmmm.... I can be a great party planner if my brain is in the right spot. I'll give it some thought and get back to you if you'd like.

May I ask a few questions about him?
Fav color, fav team and maybe his fav band. Oh yeah what kind of weather do you have in may??
Thanks for this!

Thank you, folks!!

I'm enjoying what I'm hearing so far.

My sons favorites:
Color - yellow
Team - Denver Broncos
Band - Linkin Park

The weather here in May is generally pretty mild, but we already seem to be much warmer than norm. This happened last year, and we ended up with our hottest and driest summer ever recorded. By May last year we were already into the upper 80's even to the mid 90's. If it is the average spring (which I'm not expecting) then we're in the 70's and 80's with better chances for rain.

Look forward to hearing your ideas from brainstorming. You guys are seriously doing great!! I wouldn't have thought of most of these things.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

How many people will attend the party? Mostly family or his friends?

Would he be interested in something like a bowling party where you rent several lanes and bring in pizza/cake? I like that kind where I don't have to do clean up. Some places you can rent a pool if the weather will be warm.

I was not aware they had a new album. Thanks for letting me know! It looks like that'll be on the list of gifts.

Thanks!

I really like the bowling idea, but then again I love to bowl. I think he'd really enjoy that too. It gives him one more thing to try and beat his mom at.

I think it'll mostly be friends. His local family will be there, too.

A friend of mine just shared a GREAT idea I thought I'd pass along. It's not so much a theme though, but that's okay.

She suggested that I have family and friends write out the good they see in my son as a way of sending him off into his new direction with some positive reinforcement and encouragement. I don't know about you, but I love this idea!!!
