The icons are really cool, I think, and they convey a lot of feelings.
 means "confused," for example.  means "argh." I think they should really be used more often, so folks would understand each other better. My favorite of all is  . No explanation necessary.

Maybe a mean Star Wars character such as Darth Vadar could show contempt or dislike and a nice one like Luke Skywalker could show approval!

I guess folks are coming more and more tolerant with language over time? They're getting to the point where hardly anything is bleeped out in nighttime TV, anyway.
