I'm sure there are others who consider making a thread but wonder if there is a point in it.
I stumbled on an article about animal testing... vivisection the Brits call it I think. Something called Section 24 in the UK that allows for secrecy in experiments and testing in which animals are used.
It's such a dark subject. I'm just not sure would be good for this site.
My threads are usually about anything other than MI. I'm uncomfortable posting about my issues for a variety of reasons. I'm somewhat privacy oriented, have an inborn or learned sensitivity to being seen as a whiner, and I just feel like it doesn't help me much. That's why my threads are usually in current events or music. Also I don't think that having MI should prevent anyone from having normal interests in what goes on in the world. And having discussions if it doesn't "trigger."

I agree 100% with the idea that we shouldn't just deal with mental illness here at PC. It's nice to just forget about my diagnosis sometimes and enjoy reading news, laughing at funny comments and funny threads, chatting about interests, etc. Being "normal," you know.

But if you ever do want to share personal issues, George, as you know, we are designed here for people to do lots of that, too. Please don't feel like you'll be perceived as a "whiner."

Hi George, it's not easy to open up and show our vulnerabilities, even on a site like PC which is designed, like Payne said, just for that. I know what you mean about not wanting to be viewed as whining but you could also view it as sharing. and who knows, maybe something you write might help someone else? and if not, at least you would have gotten some of your pain out of your system. Still, only if and when you feel ready and comfortable. No pressure

Thanks all but I will very likely continue on as I have. If something comes up that I feel would be beneficial to share I'll keep the option open.
I decided to go ahead and post about animal testing. If I suddenly disappear from the site I may be out getting in trouble as an animal rights activist

Ha! I don't think you'll disappear for that reason, anyway!

George...when you said "MI", I was wondering what does that mean!? Does it mean "mental illness?"......If so, you are the smartest, most insightful person with such a "label" I've come across!

I'm familiar with the term "vivisection." I guess you could say animal abuse "triggers" my anger, but I don't like this term the way it's often used. I don't think things that make you angry are triggers. I think things that cause an episode of your particular mental or physical illness should be called triggers. When you get angry over something, except perhaps for people with rage issues, it's a normal reaction to be angry. I think of a trigger as something that sets off a panic attack, a "spell," pain to an injured area, etc.

Anyway, I'm wandering off-topic. I can discuss vivisection and animal welfare and abuse. I just signed a PETA petition, even though I'm not a PETA member. It was to stop horrific animal testing at a major college.
