This may just be me ranting because I've tried making a twitter account and frankly didn't get the point of it... but I'm curious to know how many people have twitter accounts? Or what you think about it?

I get why celebrities and business owners who want to promote their product have twitter... but I don't get why average everyday people have it. What am I missing? I mean I hate to sound harsh but nobody can possibly care what you're doing at all hours of the day lol.

Plus isn't that what facebook is for? For keeping your family/friends updated on your life. I have facebook and I make meaningless posts probably every other day or so... but twitter is like CONSTANT meaningless updates, and I can't possibly think of why someone would want to tell the world what they're thinking, eating, and doing every hour on the hour.

What do you guys think?

Personally, I don't use twitter or Facebook - but especially twitter, I see no point too, I'm just plain not interesting enough for it to matter to most people what exactly I am doing when.
The hand full of times it dose matter to a few other people, it's much easier to just tell those few individually.
I can see the point of, and at times have used, public networks to communicate - but unless it is for a business, or selling something, excreta, I wold rather do it privately - example, I run my own mail server - I use a "free" mail account for anything public, my ISP mail for any true business transactions (banks, E-merchants, excreta), but the one I run personally, on my own computer - ONLY fairly close friends and family members use that one.....

I have a twitter account. It was fun to banter there and say funny things with other people who are "abnormal" like me. Haven't been there in a long time though. I barely use facebook as it is anymore.

I actually deactivated my fb account last week because of this. I was SO sick of seeing what everyone was doing, where, and who with... I would especially get depressed about seeing MY friends who were out n about and didn't invite me :/

i use twitter more than fb. for me twitter is like instant rant of which only my close friends can read coz my account is private. for fb its like everyone adds you and it's all like i can't rly make things private instantly...

twitter for me is good for times when you're super bored (like waiting for your turn to see T or something). fb is the one that is full or meaningless updates like people sharing some beheading video in china -_-

I got rid of fb and I've asked my partner to shoot me if I ever get Twitter. so I'm probably not the best person to field that question...

The only reason I use twitter is to follow my favorite softball team whenever their games aren't televised locally ... I refuse to and don't do facebook at all ... That feels a bit too invasive and contrived to me as if the owner of it (and his minions) are toying with everybody's lives like we are puppets of theirs or something.

That's all.

Its very confusing at first. But I tell ya, twitter is not for updates on what people are doing, I think it's designed to get you to a quicker surface for sharing opinions or thoughts that can easily be seen anywhere.
I didn't liked it at first neither

Haha! Well I have a Twitter account, and I rarely update but I do use the search function. What twitter does for me is say, a year ago there was an earthquake swarm in California that I was super interested in. I don't live in California so I didn't see much on my local news about it. When I entered it into twitter, I had thousands of real-time messages from people who were experiencing the swarm first hand.

Also, I allow my twitter account to post on behalf of others who are in danger. For instance, there is a man named Yousef Nadarkhani in Iran who was being held in prison for over two years because he didn't want to be a Muslim. He had a wife and two young sons. He was set to be executed by hanging in September 2012. Because of the pressure that was put on the Iranian Government by folks keeping it at the forefront (we haven't forgotton you Yousef etc.) he was released and is currently home with his wife and family. So there's multiple reasons to use it although I don't use it often.

I made a twitter account a year ago, and since then I've been on it A LOT since the situation in my country (Syria) is really bad so its a place to talk about that and interact with other Syrians and discuss the situation. That is the main reason I use twitter, no other reason actually.

This whole Telecommunications Revolution has turned the World upside down. I liked the World much better before the internet. I loved the 70's and wish we could go back to that era.

I don't get why people have a desire to send messages to the whole World. What am I missing? It seems like a dangerous activity if you ask me (unless it's for business purposes).

-.- Contradictory post, but mmk... you basically just slashed Twitter for the same reason you use Facebook; they're simply different social websites, that's all. You're not forced or obliged to post every other day; it is not a requirement.

My thoughts on Twitter? Couldn't care less, other than being sick of all the hashtag nonsense.
