I'm in florida, about 30 mins from the beach, and decided to go out there to the beach tonight and see the hurricane for myself. All I could say is wow. That was very fun and intense. We're only getting rain bands here in Daytona but the winds were a sustained 30 mph, with gusts up to 40-50.

I haven't felt that good in a while. Despite the chaos, I was loving it. The wind made the rain literally go sideways, and it was enough to hold me up when I leaned back or push me forward as I went with the wind. I tried to get some pics and videos but it's dark, and I didn't bring my good camera with me, so I didn't get much. I'll try tomorrow during the day if it's still affecting us. I wish we didn't have to leave lol. I walked along the boardwalk a bit, and even along the shore- until salt water hit my eyes. We even saw one of the news reporters out there broadcasting live. They said the winds were worse earlier in the day, but there's still been a lot of storm damage.

There's just something exhilarating about chaotic conditions like that. Now, if it were any stronger - like 70 sustained? I wouldn't go out there, it was dangerous to drive up there with it being 30 sustained even. But I felt at peace out there. Like the chaos outside balanced out the inner chaos and made me feel "normal" for once.

That was just too fun.

Sila,

Glad you had an awesome time out there! I am in Florida as well, not too far from the coast, maybe about 30 minutes, and my mother has a beach house so I was toying with the idea of going out there and watching the waves. No one wanted to go with me, but at least I get to hear about it from you! I think nature can provide us with so much happiness and perspective. I can just imagine being out there during that awesome display of the ocean and I think I would feel exhilarated too. The ocean is such a cleansing, awe inspiring thing...nature is one of the best life teachers and inspirers.

Loved to hear your account! Look forward to more posts!

KAT

I live west of the center of the state. Winds here are wicked. Like the two of you I enjoy the beach on windy days. The power of Mom Nature is so incredible. Not gonna drive to the beach today though. The winds are making driving dangerous.

Not to put a damper on anyone's enjoyment, let's keep those folks in the direct path in our thoughts. This is not going to be fun for them.

To those in the path or close to Sandy I wish you, your families and your property to all remain intact through this storm. Best of luck to you all.

I love that stuff Sila...the damage side of things is nasty but there's nuthin' like raw open sky roaring at you. I used to go down to our beaches when I lived in Eastern Canada to watch hurricanes blow themselves out...the noise the rain the wind! Ya gotta love it.

I always wanted to see and experience the waves but never got the chance to catch a view of this beautiful scenario. I am glad you saw it and wish the pics you too were clear so that you could upload here.
