I had one of my neighbor's cows go under the fence in the run-off stream that runs between our farms......all of a sudden, Leo was barking his fool head off. I looked up & there was a steer on MY side of the fence. He took off down the street & I hopped into my truck to round him up or at least try to head him back toward home while I put a call into my neighbor.

Another 2 got out & were just wondering down our road.....thank heavens for my truck because it does a good job or rounding up cattle & at least getting them headed back in the right direction.....not as good as the remote control car however

They definitely are interesting creatures. Wonder if they were handled as much as our horses if they would be more in tune with humans???? Probably because they are stuck in a herd & herd mentality isn't called that for nothing. It is fascinating to see that sometimes there is one who wants nothing to do with the herd & finds it's own way to a lonly location so as NOT to be bothered.

My original neighbor who died of cancer a few years ago, owned 8,000 acres in our county & much of it's right across the street from my farm....& so is the feed lot. The new owner does cattle also.....& the other day they had them in the feed lot just before they came to haul them away....to fatten them up......wow, the smell & the flies.....enough to make you feel pretty sick when the wind comes wafting from that direction......but all in all....I love living in the country & being surrounded by cattle, horses, & goats.

Maybe you could attract them with jazz music. It's a known fact - cows are attracted to horns

Thanks for this!

Little boy blue come blow your horn,
The cows in the meadow are-
Aww, never mind,
Luckily, you get to sleep in this time,
The cows are actually eating the grass instead of the corn.

(this was a stupid joke. Oh well.)
Thanks for this!

Maybe you should put more salt on your skin? My farmer dad provided a salt lick for our cows. Maybe that's why they are liking to lick you!

Salt? As a cow, I would be tired of having the same thing more than once.

Do they enjoy sugar by any chance?

The salt was to supplement their hay/grass diet. They need it. I doubt they would like sugar!
