I know! ...not very interesting. I'm thinking of dying my hair black, and my beard, since I have a fairly decent sized goatee - obviously, I'm a dude. Kinda looking for some experienced posters. Is it worth dying your hair? How weird is it for a dude of 27 to wanna dye his hair? :P Also, I'm worried about losing hair due to chemicals and crap; apparently it's not that bad anymore, but I'm still skeptical! Just kinda wanna change my look - express who I am a bit more, rather than dressing the same damn way that I have for quite a few years. I'm thinking... black prescription shades, black hair, new prescription glasses, light blue jeans or my black jeans in the Winter, long black trenchcoat, sorta Gothic but not OTT. Yeh, I'm kind of into Gothic styles, not "Emo", but Gothic. I'm also thinking about tattoos, to cover up old scars; does this work? IDK how much of this I'll go through with. :P

Cheers!

It's a cool idea. I did my hair blue, pink, green, and purple in the past. Better to do it at 27 than at 37!
Thanks for this!

Nah I dont think its weird for you to want to change your hair color. Dyeing your hair wont do to much damage, but bleaching it will. Since your dyeing it black i dont think bleaching will be a problem.
I like the tattoo idea, I want to get sleeves when I can and decide what itll be, for the same reason.
Thanks for this!

A hair stylist told me once that the semi-permenent dyes are better for your hair than the permenent ones. Another advantage is that if you don't like the new color it washes out - eventually.
Thanks for this!

I've dyed my hair black several times. Are you doing this at home, or with a stylist? If you do it at home, coolest thing, when it's time to rinse, it colors the tub purple

The thing about hair coloring, is it can dry out your hair. Make sure your hair is healthy going into it, and it shouldn't be a problem.

Granted, I am a woman. But changing your hair to suit your style sounds like, go for it to me

I'm still debating with myself, and that box of black dye in my cabinet, I bought extras....
Thanks for this!

I have fine, medium-length hair. Yeh, I'd be doing it at home. Cheers!

Becareful with black . Make sure you want it dark. As black is black in the dyeing world. It wont hurt your hair either. I if i was to dye it lol bleach it blonde. lol Thats if i was too.
Use conditioner too. good luck

I used to dye my hair black all the time. But yeah, make sure that's what you really want because you can't really dye over it. You have to wait until it grows out.
They have all kinds of stuff now. What I like, being someone who cares deeply about the environment, is the variety of products they have without harsh chemicals that are still semi-permanent. Manic Panic would be something to check out, or Aveda. I'm sure there are others.
But I don't think it's lame at all to dye your hair at any age. I think in this incredibly warped world we have the priorities are skewed and self expression (especially artistic self-expression) should be more highly valued.

I do it regularly. Here in the US, we have a product called Just for Men for beards. Works well. It does leave my skin itchy the next day, but I put OTC hydrocortisone or benadryl cream on it, and it's fine.

I think it makes me look a lot younger. I keep my beard trimmed very short, essentially long stubble, so I have to do it about every 4-5 days. Also dye my hair, that lasts about 4 week.

I think it makes me look about 8-10 years younger. Others have told me that as well.

Go for it!

Akuma, here are a couple of other ideas. If you aren't sure you really want to go black how about going to a store and trying on a black wig? I'm not saying buy the wig, though you could. I'm suggesting trying one on to see if the color suits you. As others have pointed out, black lasts. Be sure you want/like the color before you dye it.

Another idea would be to try one of the very temp dyes that wash out in 8 to 10 washings. The black might last longer than that but it weouldn't last as long.

I'm going to make a kind of negative observation about dying hair black. I've seen way too may people with dyed black hair that it looks artificial. Natural hair color has various shades on the person's head. Dyed black, more so than other colors, doesn't have any variation. It ends up looking fake.
