I confess I can't spell worth a hoot (except I just did! ) but I had to laugh yesterday reading an article on msn.com about a kid who is protesting that his misspelling of "emancipation proclamation" in Final Jeopardy should've been accepted. He's complaining that he was deprived of possibly winning. Actually there's no way in hades he could have won even if he bet everything he had, but that's not my point.

I was howling laughing reading the comments about the article from people who critisized him for his misspelling, but had misspellings in their comments. Can't tell you the number of people who called him a "looser" or wrote "miss spell" (is that Aaron Spelling's daughter?) Then there was the the poster who kept referring to the "artacal." Don't you just love it?
Thanks for this!

That's a good one. Without spell check everyone is lost and even spell check has it's limitations.

It annoys me immensely as someone who is attempting to procure a job when one of the qualifications for the job is good written communication skills including spelling and grammar and they make tons of mistakes in their announcement. Are they trying to prove a point on WHY they need someone?

Yeah...typos are a peeve of mine also. But it's funny when, as you mentioned, liz, people are making fun of someone who can't spell and they can't spell themselves. Online forums or threads (ie facebook) where there is usually bashing involved are the worst.

Lol. That stuff makes me laugh, too; you're not alone, there. I particularly enjoy it when those sorta people call you "retarded", "idiot", "stupid", and other variations thereof, when their spelling and grammar looks like it was put together by a drunk, on drugs, being repeatedly slapped with a wet fish.

We all have our moments, it's true - whether it's a typo, a dyslexic, a misjudgement from being tired, simply being blissfully unaware of how something is correctly spelled or structured, or something else entirely, but it's an entirely new playing field, when you rudely insult someone, while at the same time contradicting those very insults. Sometimes you really do have to laugh. :P

Thing is though, most of these people are probably just kids, so they likely don't know much better, and as we all know, kids can be rotten little sheets. I've played quite a lot of online games over the years, and I swear, I've met more asshats than I have nice people, kids and older folk alike.

I spent a whole year learning how to spell Czechoslovakia because we had so much correspondence pertaining thereto ... Imagine my disappointment when they split up into two different republics!

I find myself making a lot of spelling mistakes lately so I couldn't criticize in good conscience but... I might make an exception for people criticizing others while also misspelling words. I probably wouldn't bother posting a comment but I would smile.
