30 minutes seems a little long for a man. My husband gets in there, washes and rinses, and gets out. My showers are usually a bit longer than his, because I would shave my legs and underarms while my husband doesn't, and also my hair is tail-bone length, so that's more to shampoo and condition. However if I'm not shaving or shampooing that day, I'm just in and out like he is.

If one of us is taking a hot soak in the tub for relaxation or muscle soreness, of course it's longer. But that's for something other than hygiene.

Just a plain-out selfish, entitled renter in the house.... ugh. Don't know if I could live with that.

ETA: It's just occurred to me that if he has a bad back, he could be standing in the shower with the hot water aimed at his back, to relieve the soreness. I may do that sometimes myself. So I can see the shower thing (although a tub soak would be better for that purpose) and I can see limited chores, but I can't see the all-out rude attitude. I think if it were me, I'd have a talk with him to see what chores he can do, and make clear what rules are expected in your house. Even with a body half-broken, I can still clean up after myself. I could do that if I were in a wheelchair. So he should be expected to do something.

Sounds like the renter I had. UGH doesn't even begin to describe ....

And we can all guess what he's doing in there. Is there an option to tell him to move out? 30 minutes is a whole water heater full of water. Not cool.

I had to kick my renter out because me having a stomach ache every time I heard her come in, open my fridge, eat everything in sight, spend 2 hrs in the bathroom...running up my food, water, electricity & gas beyond all reason ~ it was more than I could take.

I learned my limits though. I won't be house sharing ever again.

I, personally, believe so.

That said, I know a lot of people (specifically women, not trying to generalize just pointing out that maybe shaving has a lot to do with it among other things) that spend about 20 minutes in the shower.

I have a friend I speak to on YIM. She'll go away to take a shower and yes, on average, is away for about 20 minutes. I recall once telling her I had to take a shower. Upon returning ten minutes later, she quipped that that was quick. Which confused me. Because my showers, on average, are 8-10 minutes. Unless I'm washing my hair that day. Which still only tacks on a few extra minutes.

In short, coming from someone who doesn't shave and has ear length hair, 20-30 minutes seems WAY too long.

30 Minute shower?

Only if I were being joined in said shower by Katie Perry and Hallie Berry,

Note: statement above is intended for humor only as my actual chances of that happening are exactly .0000000000000000001

Radio Flyer, what about shutting off the water to the bathroom after 10 minutes?

As for how long a shower should last, my husband used to stand under the water letting it beat down on him until the hot water ran out. He could be in there 45 minutes. If we were both going some place I learned to shower first so I didn't end up taking a cold shower.

As for how long I take, probably 10 minutes total. I get in get wet all over while washing and rinsing my hair. I turn to water off while I soap up, then turn it back on long enough to rinse off.
Thanks for this!

If I lived with someone I would have to shower when they weren't home. I take about one hour to shower, about 30-40 minutes of actively showering. I don't do a thing in there, not even shaving anything. I just zone out. And I take my time. With everything. Drives people mad. I don't shower every day so I feel entitled to showering that long.

When you ask a general question for a specific person, things can go really wrong. A general reply might not have anything to do with this person.

I think I used to spend 20-30 in the shower... I had long hair and I was very conscientious
It's hard to say for certain about then or now because I didn't time it and still don't lol.

A 30 minute shower is long.

Renters usually take longer showers because they don't have to pay the water bill. My friend owns a property and has to regularly tell his renters to reduce their water usage.

I take 10 to 15 minute showers. Most of that time is spent washing my very long and thick hair.
