This might sound creepy. But. Your hair actually looks and sounds a lot like mine. I have huge issues with dandruff, too. I have tried every dandruff shampoo under the sun (head & shoulders, off brands, selsun blue, etc) to no avail. I have tried various shampoos recommended to me. To no avail. The only shampoo I found that helps slightly is Aussie. It works best on me when I pair it with conditioner. It leaves my hair looking pretty straight for a few days and feeling pretty decent, too. Due to my income, I can't always afford it. So have to settle. But if you haven't tried it, I do recommend it.

I understand what you mean about self confidence. No matter what I do, mine always ends up looking like a hot mess, too. I don't mind it particularly. Until someone is "kind" enough to point it out. And god forbid it's hot or raining. Any kind of humidity or moisture causes my hair to frizz. It is frustrating. Straightening it helps, but I'm like you. I just can't do it. Another thing I do do, though, is carry a comb with me everywhere. When I can get a chance to be alone, I sometimes comb it down.

I really don't have much advice for the dandruff. As I've yet to find a SINGLE dandruff shampoo that helps long term. Selsun blue seems to control it for like a day. It burns, though, because I admit to scratching a lot. Seeing a dermatologist like January suggested might be your best bet if it is as bad as mine. I actually probably should myself..

yeah I am definitely going to see a dermo. my scalp is just non stop itching, and I'm tired of being late for class every morning trying to wipe out all the flakes. it takes for ever. But also, I have flakes and dandruff on my eyelashes. That is the worst. like not just eye crud in the morning, but like caked flakes at the base of my eyelashes, takes FOREVER to get out and wipe it all away. makes me late for class everyday. and yeah I'll try the aussie shampoo, might as well I guess. I am just looking for that perfect formula of shampoo and conditioner, that will leave my hair looking straight, and not dry and frizzy. I don't get it though, they say frizzy hair is caused by a dry scalp? Ok, well how did it get dry? How to I keep it moist? I try moistening conditioners but they NEVER work. Always the same exact thing. I get out of the shower and comb, and for a good hour it looks great, straight, neat, presentable, then bam. the first hairs start to curl, the layer of fly away frizz above my head forms, and it starts to look like crap. I just want to know how to lock it in that straight mode. without serum though, because that stuff just makes my hair greasy and gross. And I hate how I look when I tie my hair up...

My hair has been an impossibility for my whole life. My mom used to actually offer me money to brush it when I was a kid, only to realize the only reason I wasn't brushing it was because it hurt so badly (curly hair/wavy hair is a PAIN, when people tell me they wish they had curly hair I just want to cry for them and go "no honey, you're looking in the wrong direction here".

My hair when I was 16 okay
why does my hair always look so bad??
And to add to the amusement of it all, my face speaks volumes.

When I was 18, I started figuring out ways to manage it. As in, I only put conditioner on the LOWER half of my head, it never touched my scalp as conditioner can cause blockages and produce more dandruff. So my puffy insanity turned into some what puffy insanity

why does my hair always look so bad??

I chopped it off earlier this year because I got sick of being called a girl and I got sick of trying to mange it because wow no.

And now it's doing a lot better. But if you don't want to chop it, which I get 100%, keep hair products away from your scalp. Deep conditioning treatments (even home made ones; olive oil is good as it is not animal fat therefore wont keep your hair greasy or cause your scalp to do the same but will put moisture back).

My hair right before I chopped it this year
why does my hair always look so bad??
I am a skin picker, which was never easy on my scalp. One thing I will tell you, be careful using any soaps that say they rid of the fungus or bacteria that causes dandruff. It can damage your immune system, and if it isn't caused by a fungus or bacteria, you can obliterate what is fighting off those things and end up with it.

Really glad this was that thread I shared my face on haha

what do you mean about not wanting to be called a girl? Do you not identify as one? And I think your hair looks great in all of your pictures. and I've tried just about everything with conditioners. olive oil worked pretty well though. I really put a lot of faith into this whole apple cider vinegar thing though, didn't really work much for me though. I just want to get rid of this frizz though. like on your hair it works, nothing wrong with a little puff, but mine just looks weird. like the top of my head is straight and the tips are just dry as a desert. and I totally know what you mean about people saying omigosh I want your curly hair! No. you don't. I mean, sure I like having a little wave, but there's a limit. I'm so on the verge of just cutting it short... which I don't really want to, because I still like long hair... I dunno at this point. I went through a huge beanie phase just to not have to deal with it.
