I need suggestions. I know it's a month away but I like to plan these things out in advance. I'm debating on three outfits for Halloween, but all have their drawbacks. First, I want to be DeadMau5, but the problem is that I would need a Mau5head which are about $100-230 and that's too much to spend on something I will only wear once. I'm also considering to be Skrillex, but most people recognize him for his half-shaved head, and it might be impossible to cut a wig to look like that and people might not get it. Thirdly, I'd like to be a Nazi zombie, but that's not exactly an outfit I can wear out of the house, if you know what I mean. I feel that women are pressured to wear something sexy, but I want to wear something original and preferably masculine, as there's few opportunities for me to crossdress outside of Halloween. Suggestions?

Other costume suggestions are welcomed, as I don't think I'll be able to pull of either of those.

Also, here is what I'm talking about dressing as:

Hey Dr Skipper, I really like the zombie Nazi idea. So droll, so original.

And a zombie anything is just inherently funny.

It's just something that perhaps royalty should not wear.....

Well, what I was thinking for the Nazi zombie costume was that I would wear the officer's hat and my lingerie get-up, and I can either put a HelloKitty or frowny-face patch over the swastika armband or just not wear the armband at all. I think the armband would be overkill.

I think you can find a wig at Party City (even order online) for nearly nothing. I do believe a wig can be manipulated in such a way that it can looked shaved without being shaved.

One way to to this is to buy bobby pins that match the wig. If it's a bit off, don't worry, you'll know why in a second. Adjust the wig to your head so it wont come off or loose. Then, with a comb, brush the part of hair you want to "shave". Pull it tight, and then TIGHTLY wrap it around to the other side of the head, letting the wig hair fall over it. Use a non-alcohol based hair spray to flatten it out. And bam, instant side cut.

You can do the same in a different way with another wig (mind you, these wigs from party city are at most $10. Most being cheaper especially now, so maybe considering buy two of the same. AND A WIG CAP THAT MATCHES THE WIG COLOR). Part the wig where you want it to appear shaved. Bring that hair to the side of your head, and leave some behind. with what's left behind, cut. Cut first slowly and in bits. Then once you get to where it would be normally "shaved", cut very short.

I've worn a lot of wigs and own.... we will say a few. They are easily manipulated if you're using synthetic fibers. Which all cheap wigs are.

I hope this helped a bit.

I clicked on the first link of Growlycat's post and added up the cost--would cost about the same as if I bought it, without the disaster of my hands that would cause me to destroy it, burn it, then hide the evidence of my inability to create art.

But here's the million dollar question: If I bought a Mau5head, would I get my money's worth out of it? Would I be able to use this on more than one occasion/Halloween, and how quickly would I get over DeadMau5 since I am currently obsessed with this now.

OR is this something that is worth using only once? I very rarely use something once, but is this something that might be worth using once for the memories?

I think it'd be a badass costume either way, and everybody would recognize me as DeadMau5 whether they know his music or not.

You could buy it then sell it right after halloween---or sell it before next halloween!
You could recoup some of your $$

The paper mache version is cheaper than the first way--but would still set you back at leat 50 $

I guess I could sell it, but I'm worried no one will buy it.

And I don't have any particular plans for Halloween at the moment, but I'm sure I'll at least hang out with friends maybe go to a haunted house or something.

I can't do any of that. I can't even color between the lines or cut paper on a straight line. I'm so uncoordinated with that.

Halloween costumes

I made this EL wire corset for a music festival this summer, but didn't get a chance to wear it very much.
I have no idea what I'm going to be for Halloween, but it's definitely going to include that, because it's excellent.

Aaaagh I don't know if I should!

I have decided on a Mau5head, but that I will wait and think about it for a day. The Mau5head I've chosen is $150, which is more than I've ever spent on a single item of clothing, let alone a costume. The Mau5head is blue and the eyes light up and change color which is nice.

I think this would be an amazing costume, would it be worth wearing only once?

Pros and cons?

I think I might go as a psychopath, they look normal on the outside, kinda like Ted Bundy, and I don't need to dress up... Either that or I'd dress as a scarecrow, or something that covers my face, and sit on the rocking chair out front and wait for kids to come up so I can scare the crap out of them

I am going to a small get together as Shaun from Shaun of The Dead. I love halloween so much, and I am finally going to see the leaves changing in upstate new york. So I am excited.

I think that, come Halloween, you'll be happy to have spent the money on it.

Also, if you ever find yourself raving and/or festivalling, that's a perfectly valid time to wear it out post-halloween.
