I used to crochet quite a few years ago and when I was a kid and enjoyed it quite a lot, although I never reached any great proficiency. I found it really relaxed me, the repetition with instant sense of completion really worked to calm my anxiety.

Trouble is, I've developed carpal tunnel and tendinitis now, and am a little skeptical as to whether or not sewing will quickly agitate these problems. I'd like to really dive into whichever sewing style I choose, so I don't want to dive in and discover, once I'm capable, that the more advanced stuff really debilitates me.

Any insight...? Kind of random, I know. Haha.

I would think it would depend on how long you plan on sewing at a time and whether you plan to hand sew vs machine sew. If you plan on machine sewing and don't plan on sitting at the machine for an extended amount of time, I think you might be alright.

I quilt- mostly baby quilts. You could give that a shot! It's very relaxing and you can either make very simple block quilts or more advanced, difficult ones. It's all up to you and what you're comfortable doing.

Another thing you might like is loom knitting.

Hi, I'm Gayle. And I crochet a lot and it has caused problems with tendonitis so I would think it wouldn't be too good for your wrist. Maybe, if you do it a little at a time. That's what I did. I had quit crocheting for quite a while, but can do it now as long as I "listen" to my wrist.

Cool!

Loom knitting seems interesting - before looking it up just now, I thought those things were for training or something!

I hope you find a way around your impairment. It's hard not being able to do what we love especially if it is so helpful in soothing our minds.

I have had surgery on my wrist. The damage was already done so surgery was only slightly helpful. Now I wear a brace when doing these types of projects. I need to work in very short spurts. I practice stretching exercises in my hand to my shoulder, too.

Crocheting was also my great love. I haven't been able to do that so much anymore.

I hope you can still enjoy your crafting in other ways.
Thanks for this!
