Did she like the Little Women? There's more in the series, you could get Little Men, do "series" or pairs of a single author like that, make it a tradition? That would give you time and goals :-)

Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass?

Personally, I loved the Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander, there's 5 in that set.

I have a good used book search engine that I use to find my out-of-print books (or 1st editions), http://www.addall.com It searches most of the Web including eBay.

Or, get her a nice Amazon or other physical bookstore gift cert and the two of you have a day out together at the store?

How about that book about the present from francine rivers? I enjoyed it so much even though it was meant for younger children... It has a good life lesson, but I don't remember the exact name.

What about "The Tales of Narnia"? She's small enough the she won't get the religious overtones.

Also, what about "The Hobbit"?

Although they are written by an American about the American frontier, the "Laura Ingles Wilder" books are fantastic.

What is her reading level, Mellors. That counts a lot. I can help you find something better if I know her reading level.

What about Fairy Tales? Like a entire book by the Grimm brothers? Some are sappy, and some are really interesting.

I also think Alice in Wonderland is a good book, or the Narnia series.

I'll think about it some more - books are fun and I've come across a lot so perhaps an idea will come to mind.

Good luck regardless mellors. help needed

I was a "Little House on the Prairie" fanatic at age 8. Also the Chronicles of Narnia. I was a voracious reader, but those two series stand out in my mind the most.
