This year i'm determined to not to think too much of what other people think of me and i'm going to challenge myself to do things outside my comfort zone. I've just been on BBC London radio talking about something slightly embarrasing and personal and my pulse was racing abit but i did it. I write poetry and have joined a poetry reading group and read them out. Next stop karaoke, stand up comedy, speech making and whatever else i can find to challenge myself. So you can do the same . Get out there and do it!!!

Oddly enough, I don't really have a comfort zone. I've been known to do pretty much anything socially.

Last year the actors at the comedy melodrama club we go to pulled me on stage and I had to improv a prison scene. Boy, did they regret grabbing the Webgoji! I think "scene stealing hack" would be an appropriate depiction.

I'm trying to start a business which is going to require that I talk to people I don't know about things I'm still trying to figure out and eventually get bold enough to approach people directly to talk. I'm very nervous, particularly since I've been pretty reclusive for the past year, but it's something I have to make work. I have a lot riding on it.

Hey, Maranara, I know how scary those calls can be. I've made similar cold calls for information and sometimes favours. But once you get your head around it, it's more doable.

Sounds like WEbgoji has a huge comfort zone. I am not very comfortable in this world. My commute to school almost an hour each way is the worst thing for me. I hate people being near me, the smells, noises, and people touching me or stepping on me. Very unnerving - I have to nearly meditate the entire time. I also have two classes this term with lots of spoken interaction. I'm not used to that. I'm going with it to make the most of it so I get new skills. I need it, since I'll be stepping up my job/career development soon. I've had a career before, but I have also spent many years peacefully working from home, which I prefer, so dealing with people is in many ways definitely outside my comfort zone.

I think anyone who does this kind of thing is nuts. Isn't life stressful enough without adding to it? I'm tempted to take a lorazepam just to calm down from thinking about it.

This year I'll be going to Israel. I've never been in the middle east before, or anywhere across the Atlantic ocean, so it'll be an interesting experience. Not much I've done in the past that I can recall.

On the contrary, 1776, I think it was brave of ptang to do it, and very encouraging.

You know when you step out there and talk about stuff that's hard to talk about, you are probably touching MANY people with your courage and fearlessness. They could never see themselves talking about it, but so often it is a topic or an issue that requires exactly that!

Good on you, ptang.

I feel myself about to embark on an exercise program that's going to take me WAY out of my comfort zone---walking around the neighbourhood, again. It's been really difficult for me to go for walks ever since I was cornered on the old block by a particular breed of dog.

I got away from that situation unharmed physically, but have had very bad anxiety surrounding walking alone, ever since. But I must do it. I need to get that part of my life back.

Hugs, ptang!!!!!

Okay, now THAT would be outside my comfort zone. I've had to work on the East Side of St. Louis and in South Central LA, but intentionally going somewhere where instead of guns and drive-by's you have roadside bombs and missile attacks is where I draw the line.

Kudos Nihil for going and stay safe!

Over this past summer I decided to pack up my drum set in the back of my parents van, drove it to an empty school parking lot, set them up in the back of the van and started playing. I did this because I unfortunately can't play them at home since I live in an apartment building. I got a lot of weird looks from people passing by which made me very uncomfortable, but I just had to do it, I desperately wanted to get some recording done and it was very compelling to make an adventure out of it. It was a strangely exhilarating and terrifying experience.

I totally support you, if you want to do something, just do it, who cares what people think. Even if it ends up being a terrible experience it's better to do it than to regret not doing it. And I say if let those moments pass you by then what's the point of life?
