For those who love wild bird watching:

Here is a link to the Cornell Lab Of Ornithology (Cornell University) live web cams for monitored nest sites of Red Tail Hawks (Big Red ad Ezra), Great Blue Herons, Albatross, and other cameras. Big Red laid her first egg of the season and waiting to see more. She is now laying on that one egg. The herons haven't nested yet.

We have a male and female cardinal that nest in the bush right outside our bedroom window every year. It's fun to listen to the babies cheep and stuff, but dad ... dad likes to sing as loud as possible at the break of dawn ...

Those cams are great. We have a pair of bald eagles that nest on the property. They are so majestic. I always look forward to when the hatchlings take flight and hope am there to see it, which is not always the case. However as high up as there nest is, I don't know that I could get a camera anywhere near them either; my climbing the trees would be sight in an of itself.

For those of you with smartphones, Cornell Labs has also released an app that will help you identify birds that you see in your yard. I've been using it about a month or so, and it's pretty impressive. It's called "Merlin Bird ID" and you can find information about it on their website here Merlin Bird ID app ? Instant Bird Identification Help for 350 North American birds

Yes, that App is only for phones and tablet that are iPhone, etc....not for Android devices yet.

Android App will be introduced sometime around June 2014.

Bird Lovers Here!??
Yea!!! Love that!
I moved to the edge of/next to a great wild desert last spring and it was as quiet as a tomb up here.
This year, I have changed all that by putting food and water out. I hear birds singing, calling, chattering, buzzing, from dawn to dust and well into the night.

I have nests of hummers, quail, finches, doves no doubt, and the hawks, falcons & even the occasional eagle visit to check on the progress and lunchability of the growing feast.

It's nature. I am happier when birds are around. Very cool bird cams. The Audubon Society has them too. It's all good...

I have a quick question: I was out yesterday and I noticed a group of pigeons in the road eating from a pile of food someone threw out. Whatever.

One of them appeared to be injured & when all the others left it was just there, literally walking sideways in a circle endlessly. And stressed.

A lady was there, freaking out, "OMG! Bird is hurt! Gonna get killed!!!" I listened to this for 10 seconds, assessed the situation,(I think it was just stunned) grabbed a small sweater & gently moved the bird to under a tree where there was also an apple core coincidentally. Done.
Bird promptly hopped back into harms way. Lady still freaking out, I left.
It was a pigeon... I thought I did enough. Sorry if that offends. But...

What would you have done? Anything?

One can only do so much to aid an injured animal. Nature always takes over and it's out of our hands. But you made the effort and that's what counts.

I once came across a baby fawn whose hind leg, it appeared, had been just shy of completely severed by the nature preserve mower. I was stunned and heartbroken because I came upon it too late. The poor fawn was barely clinging to life. All I could do was gently place it in the shade and call for a ranger to come get it. It was euthanized...to this day makes me so sad and angry that whoever mowed didn't see the baby fawn. Nature always wins...and we cannot stop it.

Bit worried about the mental state of that lady. Kindest thing would have been to put it out of its misery but i don't like killing animals whatever. No doubt the end would have been quick anyway. Again, sorry if that offends anyone.
