i am now living in central Texas. one of my hisbicus bloomed today.

the Governor has called out the National Guard due to the weather. there are suspicions that we may get some ICE........all of the churches have closed their evening services. people are raiding the shelves of the local groceries. i went to get dog food yesterday (forgetting about the impending doom) and thought people were going to hijack my cart so they could throw some more toilet tissue, water and chips in their cars........

it is now 44 degrees. i'm trying to not roll on the floor laughing. i lived in NM for too many years. temps regularly from 10 to 20 below zero. iced/snowed in for ten days at a time.

my landlord drove 7 miles to tell me to leave a faucet dripping. i guess a phone call wouldn't have held the gravity that his driving over here did. i wanted to tell him that i didn't have to leave one on, two of the outside ones already drip constantly but didn't want to take the wind out of his storm sails. "I'm Sorry"..................but "I'm Sorry"..................but

i just can't help this. Bill and i have been hysterically laughing for two days.......he is from West Va.

anyone got any storm suggestions for me? i may need them........ "I'm Sorry"..................but "I'm Sorry"..................but it may turn out to be a "three dog night"...... "I'm Sorry"..................but

i used to live in a 2400 sq ft house that i heated with one really good woodstove............this is slaying me!!! i'm going to put my smaller woodstove in here for next winter. plenty of free wood and it has a glass front...... i love seeing the fire.

i can't get over the National Guard being called out...what are they going to do?????????? now yesterday, austin was one big river and they had 8 rescues and one drowning. so the EMS was really busy.

and my yellow hibiscus is just beautiful.......xoxoxo pat

Pat, that's too funny!!

We have had one storm after the other all winter long here. Actually, very unusual.
Right now, we have five inches of snow on the ground and the night time temps have been dropping to 13 degrees, while the daytime temps are running at 30.
I just keep throwing another piece of wood on the fire and am staying very warm.
That's cool your husband is originally from West Va., so am I.

Don't forget to snuggle up tonight so you don't freeze to death. lol

Hugs,
Linda

yeah it is kinda funny.

I live in central texas too. but this is just how it is. I'm originally from new york so i've seen far worse winters than they are here, its just that after living in texas for so long, or not ever getting outside of texas you dont normally see a winter that drops below 50, except for maybe a rare day or two.

and here, with whats left of the army, with people being from everywhere the traffic is kinda crazy.

its just how it is in texas. like when the hurricane that never came was supposed to hit us people were freaking out. its just not the normal weather for the area, so most people just dont know what to do.

Hey pat...

It's so strange to hear about these things for me... we rarely go beyond 0 degrees... and I mean ever... Our winters are normally 12deg C in the day and sometimes hit 0 or -2 at night... We have no insulation in our houses or central heating sysems, which can sometimes make it bad when we get a cold front, but other than that... I have only once seen snow in my life and that was when I visited my parents in the US...
I would be one of those who would freak out... lol

The big nature things we get is thunderstorms... whenever a storm approaches we unplugged every damn electrical thing in the house... we replace our electric gate's moter about twice a year due to thunder, same with our cable. The worst I saw was when our house got hit and a flame ran from one lightbulb to the next... it was like someone shooting a blowtorch around in the house...

I'm feeling cold for you already... I can;t imagine what it must be like, but I guess if you are used to it, it ain't that bad... but I hope you have a nice cosy time nonetheless....

Ha!!! Too funny!

Years ago, another time I made a move to Florida from Ohio, the weather was very cold. I was driving south on I-275 to go visit a relative in the hospital. I was so tickled that there was some snow, very faintly visible... if you looked real close you could see it swirling on the road's pavement. Soon I saw Highway Patrolmen ahead, their cars parked across the roadway, blocking it off! Oh, a wreck I thought; I hope no one's hurt! .... No, they were directing all traffic off the exit ramp because they were closing the Interstate due to the very hazardous driving conditions!! LOL

I will keep you in my thoughts!!

P.S. Can you send me an "I survived the ICE of 2007!" t-shirt? "I'm Sorry"..................but

Good to 'hear' you laughing again at any rate, Pat!!

it is sleeting now. yesterday morning between 6-9 a.m., there were 183 wrecks in Austin. an eighteen wheeler just ran over and killed two people (in their cars))...he was driving too fast. he's being charged.

i just talked to a dear friend, around my age, and we're wondering this, "why can't i just pull over and wait this out?" what ever happened to getting the "lay of the land and lying down"?

they are warning Austin motorists that a huge contingent of truckers are waiting in Waco and will be firing through there the first chance they get. shudder......eighteen wheelers are going off overpasses down on cars below.....shudder.....SUVS are rolling all over the place.

the inauguration of our "Ken" governor went ahead. they did cancel the parade.....kinda hard to visualize people falling and sliding and breaking things just for an inaugural parade that was costing $2M.

i made chili last night and am going to fire that back up......turkey chili. and just go back to the sofa and let myself lie admidst a sea of cats and dogs and throws and quilts and pillows and the remote.

angie, i will still look for a rosebud for you.........:-)

xoxoxo pat
