Today is my 60th birthday. This is NOT a bid for birthday wishes. I just wanted to reflect my own thoughts and feelings about the day.

All year I've been thinking I should do something special to mark today. 60 seemed so significant. But the more I thought about it, the more I didn't want to do anything extraordinary. That's not depression or anything negative talking. It just doesn't seem like that big a deal to me now that it's here.

I'm going to treat myeself to a steak on the grill and a trip to my Mom's house so I can swim in the pool, but I'm just not excited about doing anything extra special.

Wjhen I was younger I would think older relatives who said birthdays were no big thing were being poops. Now I know what they mean. It doesn't feel like that big a deal. Don't get me wrong. I love people wishing me happy birthday. I like getting presents, but it's not a big deal.

Congratulations! Yes, getting into the 60s changed my perspective and has given me a lot of "Oh, is that what that means!" moments. I keep being reminded of "You'll understand when you are older" that we use to get when we were children Now, if one could only get the young whippersnappers to understand. . .

I get how you feel. I had the same anticipation leading up to my 40th. No fireworks went off when it finally came.

Do what makes you feel good and relaxed today. Take it easy like Sunday morning. Happy, Happy Birthday!

Having a swim and a steak is pretty special! Does it get any better than that? Maybe some cheesecake...

May i wish you happy returns anyway? I'm the same way about birthdays and holidays. They end up being more stressful than anything else...what i wouldn't give for Christmas to disappear off the face of the earth. Enjoy your steak!

Happy birthday anyway!

My 50th was kind of depressing, just coming out of a relationship, etc. But I've realized that I'm not as old as I thought I would be at this age. If that makes sense.

Enjoy your steak and swim.

Wait, does that mean yr mom is still around? Lucky u if so. Well I m going to to wish you a happy bday anyhow, and trust me, I already know what you mean. Quit celebrating my birthdays back when I came to terms with the fact that every damn bday I would be in full scale PMS mode. End of the month bday, end of the month bleeding, equals end of the month NO CELEBRATION pour moi. So since the age of 16 or 17 I gave up on birthdays. Screw mother nature she's a real *****, although mostly I blame God for being the jerk that started it.

That being said, I think yr birthday sounds pretty darn nice -- a swim in a pool is enough for me. Maybe I have low standards but I think that's a healthy happy birthday.

I know you're not asking for it, but happy birthday anyway LizardLady!

I think we're all different in what makes us feel happy and loved on our birthdays. For the record, yummy food and a good swim sound great to me too! And, I love hankster's idea of having cheesecake - but really, who needs an excuse for cheesecake

Enjoy your day!

I'll be the big 6-0 in January. I say on somebody's 60th birthday, that person should do whatever he/she wants or doesn't want to do!

Enjoy your day, liz!

That sounds like a lovely way to spend the day, B-day or not. Know what you mean about it being no big deal, just another trip around the sun. Congrats anyway.

I know what you mean. I spend all my birthday low key. I don't find them exicting anymore.

Sounds like you have a great day planned. (wish my mom was still around to help me celebrate)

Know you didn't ask for it but I can't help it.
the big 6-0!

Thanks for all the b'day wishes everyone! They are appreciated.

Let me clear something up. My Mom's dead. I still have her house. So, no Mom on my b'day.

It was a nice day. I slept in. Went to her house. Played by the pool for awhile and had dinner. The steak ended up going under the broiler in the oven because it was storming something fierce. I didn't think a steak on the gril was worth playing in the lightning.

Hankster, as much as I love cheesecake I love carrot cake even more. A friend gave me an entire carrot cake on Saturday. I ate as much as I wanted straight from the cake plate on Sunday.

The Indian mystic Ramana Maharshi supposedly said: "Celebrating birthdays is like throwing flowers on a corpse." I'm 66. I stopped having birthdays years ago.

Thank you for sharing. 😊 Perspective on 60. I'm pushing the 40 milestone, mom would be 60 the 15th.
