Is there anyone out there who lives in the south?
I remember way back when I was a little girl. I lived in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and I was subjected to Cajun culture. I lived in in Louisiana for 4 1/2 years. I remember their food. Fried catfish, fried okra, crawfish (how we called it in Louisiana), gumbo, tabasco sauce, soul food, Boudin balls, hushpuppies, fried chicken, various critters that lived in the bayou (frogs, alligator, and other rodents) and various selections of sea food (since we were bordering the Gulf of Mexico. |

My mother-in-law was from a small town in Louisiana. She and my father-in-law both graduated from LSU. They introduced me to mudpuppies (crawfish). I love those little devils!

Louisiana is on my bucket list for crawfish. I tried cooking them once but I don't think I did it right. they were too salty but doesn't matter, I'd still want to try them down there.
I loved fried okra~ I bet that's good down there but it might be too spicy for me. I hope I see it on a menu.

I haven't lived in the south, but the finest restaurant meal of my life was the gumbo and the crawfish etouffe at the late Cajun Yankee of Cambridge, Massachusetts.

I live in the south, but I have to be honest, I'm not a fan of most southern cuisine. The first time I went to Michigan, our aunt took us to a southern restaurant.. assuming it would be something we'd like. I made the best of it, to be polite, but most southern food is just.. not my cup of tea.
I've always been a picky eater, even before the development of my eating disorder lol... I do like cajun flavoring, though. But since I'm a picky eater, it's always been hard finding something that I want to use it in. I used to love making jambalaya for my mom and myself with it. I'd make my mom a small pot of it with sausage and shrimp, and I'd make me some with just the sausage and maybe chicken because I hate seafood. Gumbo is okay, too. I never cared for fried okra. But I liked to pick the breading off it. I liked the okra flavor, but not so much the texture. Hushpuppies were awesome when I was a kid. No southern buffet is complete without them. Most of it, though, has always been a no go for me. I recently bought some crawfish dog treats for my dog, apparently the brand is in Louisiana. She didn't like them, though. ![]()

A nice seafood gumbo is one of the finest things ever created by the hand of man. Blacked catfish and/ or shrimp served atop a bowl of grits is also mighty tasty.
