So the 300zx did that come out with the 3L v6 turbo engine? Man, thats a lot of power for a car that size, sure would make for some fun. Where is the nearest track? Fair enough about not wanting to get obsessed. I need to have it, it's like my outlet. I like to pull the engine in and out and change things.

Cool, do you have any pics? I would like to see what they come out like over there
Good luck, hope its ok. The 84-89 300zx did come with a V6 turbocharged version but it was a SOHC engine. It was a pretty tech car for its time but really dated now... nowhere near the second gen 300zx which IMO is still a relevant car even now.
I need a focus too but I tend to get obsessed and that puts a damper on the fun.

Fair enough, like you are so into it that it turns from being fun to a more serious thing like an obsession? Or it turns into work?

I had no idea there was an earlier shape 300zx, I don't think we got them in the market here in NZ. I'd say they would be as rare as hen's teeth if there were some here.

There was a fellow at that track day that put cones on the outside and inside apexes which made them easier to hit and was really helpful in maintaining a good line.

Yes something like that... and I tend to go overboard in seeking perfection. That's neither possible nor financially feasible
There were indeed some z31 300zx drivers in Oz. A few time they posted to the forums I used. Last I heard there was still strong support for the z31 in Japan. That's where you find the best examples of modified cars. They have some beautiful cars. Here is a site with first gen 300zx cars from all over Z31club members list
You mention track days and maybe autocross. I'd love to drive on a track but driving around cones would make me crazy

Haha nah not autocross, I don't think that would be my specialty either! He just put cones on the edge of the track to indicate where the car should be throughout the turn, to help maintain a good racing line. It was really helpful.

Oh okay I see. Yeah that would be helpful first time on the track. I'd be afraid I'd be looking for the cones tho in a real race lol. Autocross doesn't look like a lot of fun but I could be wrong. A real track would be worlds better tho I'm sure. You play any racing games? I was addicted to NFS Porsches Unleashed for a few years I developed a bad habit of ...trying to think of the term... something oversteer. Basically taking the inside and almost drifting around turns. Bad form but I won so many races using it lol. Wish I'd had some pedals to practice heel & toe.
Oh hey I fell in love with a car today. I never cared for BMW at all but I just discovered the 540i Msport and the M5. Incredible cars. The old wolf in sheeps clothing. A V8 that gets 29mpg highway and cranks out a ton of torque and hp. Looks like a junior exec car but handles like a Bond car. And they're cheaper than z32TTs or Cobras or 951s. Also learned that pimp angel eyes thing was around long before F&F. OEM on BMWs from back in the 90s. They called it standing lights. Still not sure what the purpose is

Haha, what year 540i? I totally get what you mean in terms of what looks to be a highway cruiser but actually possesses handling similar to a well balanced high end sports car? Love it. Oh the Need for Speed games, they were the start of all racing games right? I have serious Forza Motorsport addictions, that and Gran Turismo? You ever tried those? Actually now that we are talking about it I want to play it. I just watched a movie, only got 2 stars through imdb but its called Born to Race: Fast track. I liked it!
