Such as Italian seasoning/Italian dressing; hoisin sauce, seaweed salad, wasabi; even the imitation crab meat and the sesames used in sushi! (my favorite)

It's like 90% of the (prepared) foods out there have nightshades in one form or another. I am learning to have more strength of character- I guess this will help curb my takeout/delivery food problem- but it's really annoying- I'm going to see about possibly having pills to correct my allergy, this is ridiculous! I mean, no going out to eat with friends or family- theres nothing besides salad, scratch that, even most salads have nightshades, or the dressing does- the only kind of salad dressing that doesnt have nightshades it blue cheese or casear, and I hate both of those. At least I still have my teriyaki sauce . . . .
God, I'm starting to sound like a crazy lady, but here's the list of all nightshades and the other mixes I cant have (that I know of so far) :
(NIGHTSHADES)
Eggplant, tomatoes, potatoes (sweet potatoes not included), goji berries, cape gooseberries, tomatillo fruit, pepino, pimento(those red things often stuffed in green olives), paprika, cayenne, red chilies/red chili powder, bell peppers(all colors; red pepper, chilis/chili powder/chili flakes,
(MIXED TO AVOID)
steak seasoning, Chipotle sauce, Italian seasoning.dressing, hoisin sauce, Ketchup(of course), BBq sauce(another one of my favorites-did I mention I love spicy foods? ), Worchestershire sauce, horseradish, Curry, most mustards, seaweed salad, wasabi, sesame seeds used on/in sushi, imitation crab meat, and shredded cheese (all has potato starch to prevent caking/sticking) as well as most over the counter prescriptions and nutritional supplements also have potato starch in them as filler.
This is too much, I'm going to have to break down and have something tasty(with nightshade) maybe once a month if I don't get any pills.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention mayonnaise and refried beans (though plain orqanic refried beans doesn't have the added tomato puree and/or paprika extract), so many things that most people take for granted that you buy even to prepare your own ****ing food has night shades in them. If you care to start reading labels, you'll see my frustration. Whatever, I need a sedative. I think a shot of moonshine will do the trick.

Hi.
I have celiac disease so I understand the finding all those hidden places where ingredients lurk. While it sounds like from what you write you have an allergy, we have a relatively new social group for people with Celiac and/or other GI issues where you could get more support. http://forums.psychcentral.com/group...c-disease.html
I understand about reading all the ingredients. It totally sucks.

I've been working on my diet (and am finding all kinds of stuff that causes me problems... I'm currently trying to limit dairy, avoid grains, avoid weird oils, minimize sugar... etc.) So, I totally get the feeling like a weirdo around food, and that food is HARD. It's hard to find good, nutritious prepared foods - everything seems to be made with total crap. I'm not talking just about nightshades, which don't seem to be a problem for me, but the amount of junky ingredients used is just mind-boggling and SAD.

So, I've started learning to cook... And, I sort of hate it (I'm not good at it, and don't have a big repertoire of recipes yet), but I'm learning.

One of the things I've found... and that's super easy and fast (if you have an immersion blender, even a cheap $20 seems to work ok) - is a recipe to make your own mayonnaise!

Give it a whirl... I actually didn't eat a lot of mayo before, but have been using this to make chicken salads last week, and it's pretty good. (It may be a little "wetter" than regular mayo, but really, seems to work fine for me)...

For the mayo (this will render about ⅔ cup mayo):
  • ⅔ cup avocado oil [edit: Or extra light olive oil, cheaper and easier to find]
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • ½ teaspoon dijon mustard
  • ⅛ teaspoon garlic powder
  • salt and pepper, to taste
Add all mayo ingredients to a tall container, place an immersion blender to the bottom and turn on. Once the mixture begins to become thicker, slowly pull the immersion blender up the container to make sure mixture mixes completely.
