Received a prompt letter from my bank, kindly informing me that my card was involved in the recent "HomeDepot store data compromise ". How good of my little hometown bank to care.

A reported 53 million breaches of card data breaches.
Just wondering if anyone else here has had problems/ experience with these waves of credit/debit card info breaches of security with other businesses?

If so, how did your bank respond?
Did they contact you?
Or did you have to 'find out' the bad news first and then notify your bank?

Just interested to know others' experience with this concern.

She is an artist without doubt disappointed that paradise was not as close in 1969 as she and so many others hoped it was. Her work is now filled with the reality of humanity's failure to achieve the prophetic dream of her song, but never without the hope that that day will yet come.

A letter, or an E-Mail? Gotta be sure it's not a scam. xD Lots of those sort of E-Mails going about.

If not, ... eek. I've not once had that experience, thankfully, and if I did, I think I would want to change banks, but my bank is pretty damn awesome; they're big on security and seem to have their [beep] together.

There was a breach on eBay, those that are connected to PayPal who do have my info, but apparently the breach didn't stretch as far as their PayPal servers and so far nothing has happened, so... crossing mah fingers.

I've had about 5 instances where my credit or debit card was compromised. I usually found out about it, when I went to use the card and couldn't. So I'd call the bank, and be put through to their security department, be told my card was compromised and a new one was in the mail. I'd then usually get home to find a message on my home phone, telling me to call the bank's security department. It's better now that I have a cell, since they can call me and tell me not to use my card.

It's a bit embarrassing and inconvenient to have a card declined, but on balance I'm glad the bank is proactive about it.

Recent Credit/Debit Card Compromised Data, anyone?
Thanks for this!

Yes, me too. I use a credit union. I just got the letter yesterday that they were sending a new card/new number due to a potential security breach. I think that is proactive and member concern oriented. One of many reasons I use a credit union rather than a bank.
Fortunately/unfortunately I don't have a lot of money and my card is technically a debit card.
Hope things get sorted out for you soon
Thanks for this!

Z: Yes, as stated, I received a letter in the USPS mail (not an email) from my wonderful little hometown bank informing me that my card info had been compromised in/by Home Depot's card processing Third Party Processor company; it was not email, no.

If not, ... eek. I've not once had that experience, thankfully, and if I did, I think I would want to change banks, Note, Z: The security breech had was on the part of the merchant, not the bank. Verstehen? but my bank is pretty damn awesome; Yep, mine is super! they're big on security and seem to have their [beep] together.

Thanks for sharing your experiences here, All.

Yes, my bank as well informed me in the new letter that a new card was being issued to me. They took care of all promptly before my ever knowing until I received the letter on bank stationery in the mail.

Never a word from Home Depot, mind you. Apparently since it was HD's contracted Third Party Card Processing company with the security breech, HD has no responsibility to inform.

I promptly phoned my personal banker to extend kudos for how they handled it and for informing me.

Yes, splitimage, indeed better to have a card declined than to "never know" that your card data has been compromised. You were protected by your bank and that is what we want.

Update: Got another letter this week in the mail from my bank, re: same thing with Goodwill re: my card data compromised. I have been in communication with Goodwill on every level; they deny "any involvement" of "this Region's stores". ???

Odd: WHY otherwise would have my bank have alerted me?
'Dodging issues' / responsibility seems so pervasive on every level anymore these days!
