Well, I've posted here in the past about my home improvement projects....Why I took this one on at this busy time I'm not sure, but I ripped up all my old carpet in the living room and hallway, thinking it would be plywood underneath...NOT! It is old asbestos tile with curled edges. I can't afford to have this removed professionally and the stuff is stuck down like steel. So I searched on the Internet and discovered a new "underlayment" product made of gypsum fiber in 3' X 5' sheets that I could handle myself and have laid it down, cutting it and fitting it in place. This stuff must be screwed down with large flathead screws, and I've done that, but the many of the screws wouldn't go down to counter sunk level and are above level surface. I've removed many of thos and used smaller, shorter screws, hoping they'll hold. Now I'm having to patch the seams with floor leveler material I must mix and spread with a trowel....It's taking too long!
I'm rather OCD about living in clutter and this mess is getting to me. I went out and bought a laptop computer impulsively yesterday! Plus! I have a research paper due for grad class and haven't focused on it because of this mess in my house.
After each home improvement project, I tell myself, "this is the last one!," but I seem to be compulsive about getting myself into these huge jobs!
I'll post "before and after" pics when, and IF, it ever gets done!
Oh, and I'm typing this on my new laptop! Flooring project....a disaster!

Install hardwood or hardwood laminate flooring if possible. Carpet is very unhealthy.

Right now I'm just trying to smooth out the seams on the underlayment, and this has become more of a job than had anticipated at all! Since I wanted to do this myself, I stayed away from hardwood or laminate and bought a new vinyl plank product which looks good. It actually cost as much or more than laminate or hardwood and so I'm going to have to work on the subfloor to make sure there are no irregularities, which would definitely show with vinyl. I agree...stay away from carpet...With four pets especially! My old cat peed at my bedroom door this morning....never done that before!

Yes, Pat, I have been wondering if Old Kitty is sick...He hasn't been here all evening. He usually returns home when I get home from work! He has been a good companion, and I'm now more worried about him than my floor!

male cats get a really bad bladder disorder.....try to find him and feel to see if you can feel a distension of his bladder. if you even suspect anything, take him to vet ASAP. it's life-threatening and one symptom is they will pee in different places to let you know they're ill.......
