Many of you know that when I started college, I started as a nursing major, did 1 clinical semester and dropped out due to personal reasons then went on to be a psychology major.

For the past year and a half I've been working at a daycare as an assistant teacher, and I love it, however, I've had a pull telling me that I should explore other options, and not only that, I make pennies and I want more out of life, but there is absolutely no room for advancement where I am, and very little in the field of early childhood ed in general.

So...after a lot of thought about everything, I decided I wanted to go back to school for nursing, but this time, for my LPN rather than RN.

I applied to 2 schools for the spring 2015 semester thinking if I didn't get in, no big deal, I would apply again to them and a few others for the fall. But, I GOT IN! I got an acceptance from one of them two days ago, and after doing some more thinking, I decided to go there, and...it's in NYC, a place I've wanted to move for years!

I couldn't be more excited about this new development and life change. In a year, I'll be done with school and able to get a job that will begin a career, being in NY has been a dream of mine, I have friends down in the city and a cousin who I'm pretty close with nearby in Jersey.

I think going the LPN route is the right thing for me because it will allow me to work sooner, and I like work a lot more than I like school, and as an LPN I can still get the kind of job I would ultimately like to have, and have the option of going back to school for my RN if I so choose.

Just wanted to share with everyone

Thank you!

School starts on Jan 28th, and I am hoping to move down to the city around the 15th.

I sent my boss and email giving her my two weeks notice today because I have to do it by Friday and I figure(d) that sooner was better than later since she might not even check her email until Friday or Monday, but she can see the time stamp on it.

Congratulations!

I lived my first 10 years in Queens (Jackson Heights), then my parents moved to Long Island (I went with them, of course!). Every weekend I would take the LIRR to Penn Station; I walked to The Village, Chelsea, SoHo, and Tribeca.

My job (U.S. Navy) took me away from NYC, but I still have friends there. I've lived the last 10 years in NYC South (Florida);-).

Thank you!

I'm from upstate NY, born and raised. Lived there all my life, including college, but I've always loved the city and am very excited to move down there.

You're welcome.

First, I need to correct myself: Tribeca is fomally written as TriBeCa (triangle below Canal).

Here's some tips to not seem like a tourist:
Houston St. is pronounced How-ston St.
SoHo is south of Houston St, but north of Canal St.
South of Canal St. is TriBeCa (triangle below Canal St.).
Avenues run north/south; streets run east/west.
Many streets are one way.
The fastest (and cheapest) way to get around is by subway.

I'm sure you'll love it!

I've been to NY plenty actually, and won't have time to seem like a tourist with school But I am going down a week and a half early so I can get my bearings. I am also very comfortable with the metro

Wishing you the best.......what a wonderful way to start off the new year with a new plan & direction for your life.......

I have found that sometimes we have our best success when we leave the past behind & head off in the direction we want for our life. It's not that the past goes away but it does help to have a fresh start in a new place.

Thank you so much for all your kind words and wishes.

I think that my past will be extremely helpful in this new chapter of my life, though the most recent past I will definitely be glad to be moving on from. I am beyond excited to start a new chapter in my life and truly believe this is the path I'm meant to be on.
