Valentines day. Hmmmm. Just a commercial opportunity for Hallmark, Florists and the chocolate makers of the world.

Wooooo! First bahumbug! Adding dark clouds to a sunny day since the invention of Prozac. No offense, but I did say no bahumbugs.

Why must Valentine's day of all days to be so demeaned? I always thought of the cynical people who say "I'm single, hate it, and hate to see others happy on this horrible day" as if they were in high school. At least, that's how it was in high school. Here I am, high-school me wishing I had someone to say they loved me, then there were the pretty Mexican girls who had 50 giant heart balloons, a giant box of chocolate, and a big-as-her teddy bear, then there were the high school sweethearts who were destined for each other and were Valentines as default, then there were the cynical "Single Awareness Days" people who complained that Valentine's day was a day of hallmark cards and overpriced chocolate.

Here's present day me. I have my very first Valentine this year, and I'm over the moon. He asked me to be his Valentine, and he told me he was going to buy me flowers and chocolate, take me out to any dinner I'd like, and then a movie, and then spend the night together. It's so romantic, and I've always wanted someone to be my Valentine. So what if it's commercialized. People always spend extra money on someone they love, so why not let flowers and chocolate be something romantic? If you wish to demean a holiday for it's commercialism, blame Christmas. Christmas is the only holiday where people judge their own FAMILIES on how they think of them with their choice in gifts, and each year they try to outdo each other with the price of their gifts. Valentine's Day is just an excuse to be super-romantic, and what the heck is wrong with that?

It falls exactly two weeks from my bday. Dinners involve getting on a list. Romantic Italian Cuisine, works wonders. Jewelry, uhuh...cards, flowers, can hold the stuffies, at this stage.

...even during single times, more so post divorce, sent myself flowers and jewelry....my kids get joy from seeing me receive gifts, too.

Why or why not? I HATE useless gifts, useless affection(hand holding, cuddling etc...), being told that some day is special just because the calendar says so, compromising and having to consider someone else's feelings.
