I've done some product reviews on Amazon, the ones that you can read below the product description. I've noticed that I get generally positive votes for my reviews as long as I don't state anything critical, but if I say anything even moderately negative, people will come out of the woodwork to leave votes against my review.

For example, I reviewed a greatest hits compilation CD and used a witty header that played upon the acronym for the series. I thought it was rather inventive, but apparently almost no one appreciated the review because it had a sarcastic tone and I assigned a 2 out of 5 rating. Anyhow, as long as I rate something at least a 3 and don't say anything sarcastic, most of my votes will be yeah rather than nay.
Thanks for this!

Until you mentioned it, I didn't even think about those reviews. I remember seeing them, but it never actually clicked that I should read one.

Hmmm ... ... maybe next time I'll take a look at them.

I know what you mean - I have the same problem. Some people appreciate negative reviews. When I go to buy something, I often skip the positive reviews, and go straight to the negative reviews. It's all very well if the car looks nice, goes forward, backwards, turns left, and turns right, but if it's a mobile bomb waiting to happen then I think I'd rather know THAT. xD

I do the same thing. I buy mostly books there, and even the crappiest books have some positive reviews. I always go to the negative reviews and see if they have anything relevant or intelligent to say.

I think people pay more attention to negative reviews in general, that includes people who will get annoyed at them. You're still doing a good thing.
