It's been suggested that journaling is a good exercise for getting thoughts out. So, I went in search of a journaling piece of software, or something else.

***If this is not the place to share this information, I apologize in advance. If this post needs to be deleted, please feel free to do so.***

But what I found is a website, which I only use, and have no self-promotional interests in.

They count your words for you, they time you, they tell you how many words per minute you type, they give you an idea of your mindset after you're done based on the words you used, and they give out badges for different milestones achieved. I find it very interesting.

The website is 750words(dot)com. It may be a good tool if you're a writer.

You get the first 30 days free as a trial, and then they ask for $5 per month if you plan to continue. I'm still in my trial period and still evaluating if I'm willing to spend $5 per month for it. Just wanted to share what I thought was a good find.

It's great that you found something that helps you organize your thoughts and allows limitless rants.

Thanks for sharing.

Just FYI, I use DayOne app. It lets you tag stuff to make it easier to find later, plus you can make multiple entries per day. I have it on my phone and iPad and it's syncs across the two. It also records the weather.

Thanks for this - I use the memo thingy on my phone but it is not ideal and Evernote runs too slow without good 3G (coverage is poor here), so i will give this a go. And I find journaling very useful.

i used to journal all the time.

i used a site called livejournal.

it lets you choose your location, your mood, even lets you type in what you're listening too

it has downloadable clients too so you don't have to use the site

I find journaling really helpful. I've kept a journal since 2002, and it's now over 1800 pages. It really helps me make sense of my thoughts.

I do some journaling online, but I find that typing doesn't provide the quality journaling experience that pen-to-page provides. There's something about the pen connecting to the page that seems to access the unconscious more effectively than typing does.

Poppy road, I used to do the pen and paper thing, however methinks that age has taken it's toll. My hand cannot handle all the writing I would love to do. :-/

Split image, 1,800 pages is great! That 1 1/5 reams of paper! Awesome job!

Shattered sanity, I heard about LiveJournal, and haven't looked into it, yet. I will put on my research list! Thank you!

manofconstantsorrow, I hate the 3G limitations. Luckily, last year I got a $50 Amazon card, and it paid for 1/2 the cost of a wi-fi router. No more 3G slowness.

gayleggg, that OneDay app does look good. And it's a one-time $4.99. Definitely a candidate. Another to research! Thank you!

Lady Courtesan, you are so funny! Pegged. Limitless rants! I typed over 2,000 words today. So there you go.

Ohhh...I do understand about the inability to handle writing. I have some issues with that, too. Very upsetting because I love to write, plus I enjoy hand-lettering (signs and such, for my job).

Well, haha, I actually signed up for 750words. I'm just not sure yet whether I'll stick with it, but I'm giving it a try. So thanks, Seeker101, for the information

Poppy, I also love a pen and some paper. I don't have the best handwriting, though and think that's due to using a keyboard too much.
I recently bought a book to help my muscles re-learn what to do.

I feel like a four year old.

sophiesmom,

I can totally relate. I first encountered computers when I was 16, and have basically been doing everything I can on them since, and I'm 46 now. My handwriting is horrible. I had to hand write a couple of quizes in school, and the best I could manage was this awful combination of printing in caps, and cursive. Not good.

I'd be interested to know the name of the book you got.

Hi, splitimage. The book is Write Now, by Barbara Getty and Inga Dubay. It got good reviews and is geared toward adults.

I think it's helping...and yes, my writing looks like a spider just dragged itself out of an ink puddle and then lost all sense of direction!

.
I have pretty bad arthritis in my writing hand, too, and have been wanting to find one of the PenAgain pens to see if I would be able to write more comfortably with it: They are supposed to require less grip strength and also don't require you to bend your fingers. They look like they'd be hard to learn to use, though.
