Hey, there.

Do you ever feel like dropping everything and everyone, packing a bag, grabbing your cash and just leaving?
I've been thinking about it all night. It would be awesome to just leave, backpack through Italy or see Germany, or discover the streets of Vietnam... Leave my problems behind, and just hit the high road.

Does any one else feel this way?

Is there anyone out there that has actually done it?

What are your thoughts? Your experiences?

I'd love to hear (read) it!

Thank you for reading and sharing.
Thanks for this!

I feel this way alot! I love to travel and have gone where the wind carries me many times. You only live once. I don't regret doing it, but the first time i made a serious error. Didn't do the correct math for money and expenditures. If youre good at math and get the basics its so much fun (:
Tell us about what you decide. Money for souvenirs, food, transportation, and board need to be thought out is the best advice i can give, the other is check the weather and health news for your destination

Where did you go, KaraD?

What was it like?

Thank you for advising me about finances. I'll be sure to consider them carefully.

Ive gone to different states (California, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Florida, Arkansas, and Alaska) and I've been to Canada, Mexico, and Nicaragua (:
Each experience was unique and left me feeling free and ecstatic. Like life couldn't get any better. My favorite was Nicaragua, the people made my trip

I went to Turkey a couple of years ago. A really great trip. I searched on the internet for "how much money do I need for a vacation in ..." I got a lot of information that way. I had a pretty narrow budget, but was able to manage well. I stayed away from big hotels. I didn`t do a lot of shopping, because nr 1. I am not that interested in it, and nr 2. I wanted to travel as light as possible. If you are going someplace warm you dont need a lot of clothes. When you keep it as simple as possible, in my experience it makes the experience a lot more interesting, and you have to interact with the locals. Also it is a good idea to find out how well people speak the same language(s) as yourself. If you travel in the more local way, you will need to be able to communicate. P.S.Have travel-insurance!!!

If I had the cash, I'd blow this pop stand in a heart beat. Give everything to the Goodwill, rent the garage from a sibling to keep the pictures and keepsakes that really mean something to me.

It would be so much better on me mentally. I think Belize or Costa Rica. Warm, Sun, and Sandy beaches, sitting out on a pier fishing for dinner, Afternoon naps in a hammock, listening to the ocean sounds. Waking to the sounds of the birds and the jungle.

No house to worry about, just a palm hut and a hammock just off the beach. Plenty of building material for free. No truck insurance, no idiots at rush hour, no stupid prices for gas, just my two feet to get where I WANT to go.

Little taco stands with simple real food. No preservatives, no fourteens sentences on the menu describing it, nobody telling me how many calories, just smells and tastes good and doesn't make your stomach grumble afterwards. Real coffee beans two days off the bush, just brewed and a chunk of sugar cane in it.

Evenings with people that really are happy to see you. You sit around a fire on the beach and talk and share all the wild tales of your life and the idiot that pissed you off that day. Share a shot off the bottle somebody brought. No TV selling you everything, no yellow journalism, and no radio playing the same song every hour. No politician lying to you with a full blown cheery faced disarming smile.

A GF that really WANTS to be with you. Only thing you have that she may care about is YOU. Warts and all. The only thing that she would steal if she got mad & left you was your red hawaiian shirt, that everyone knows is yours. We all know that the reason she took was to take a piece of you and so she can smell you when she got lonely.

I've been dying to visit Scotland..the castles and the friendly locals, plus super rich history. So Lexa, did you go somewhere or are you still thinking about it? I'd love to hear what you decided
Thanks for this!

I'm thinking about it. It seems more and more tempting every day. Scotland is on my bucket list- with those castles, and awesome rainy weather! .

I've never been any where internationally, and would love to go. I'll let u know if my plan is successful.
Thanks for this!

That would be fun to see all that history. My U.S, history timeframe is young in Comparison.

I moved from a state in the south 1500 miles out west with only the car that I owned and $2000 to my name. No job but thankfully a college degree.

I moved because I wanted to and always had. I worked odd jobs at first, nothing substantial. I didn't know anyone so it was scary and yet extremely exciting as well. I was going to sink or swim all on my own.

I survived, found a great job and thrived. I would not have it any other way. I would do it again.

As a european it is true that our history is "older", but at the same time the history of the United States is really interesting. And there is very old history in the US as well, in terms of native american history. I am also very interested in the experience of the immigrants who came to the States.

YESSSS!! My goal is to get an RV and travel all over the country living at campgrounds. Then when I've seen all I want to see of the US, I'll hop on a plane and travel to all different countries, and take cruises! All I need is money and I can do this!

All the time. I normally try to keep it close. Go out in the woods alone and spend as many days as it takes living in stick shelters and such with no food.... Sometimes road trips. Unfortunately when I put miles between me and home it normally makes me feel worse and more lost.

I seriously lack the money to be able to travel

Plus I have to have access to a shower; I just can't sleep if I haven't had a shower at the end of the day.

I get the itch to wander quite frequently. I have only been financially able to disconnect for no more than a month. Last time was in 2012 when I went to the Middle East and Europe. Before I spent time in the Pacific MW US and Canada. Longest stint was in my 20 when I spent a year in Europe. I wish I had the means to take an indefinite leave and travel the world. I know someone who has been sailing the world since 2013. It's a very uplifting fantasy for me.

Oh have this problem big time.....but I want my family to come with me. My goal is to live in the foothills somewhere out west, close enough to civilization to buy a gallon of milk but far enough away to see a mountain lion in my back yard.

A good friend of mine invited me to go to Germany with him next month. We have traveled together before, and we always have a great time. He has a friend who owns an apeartment in Berlin, and Berlin is on my list of cities I would like to explore. But I just can't go right now, on account of my health. Sucks, but sometimes my health has to come before my wanderlust
